This shows how diverse the views can be on this issue. It’s clear that fans are also divided.
Just a friendly reminder to all - what we will NOT do on this site is debate and discredit viewpoints on this subject that differ from our own. Posting what a Steelers player has said (as Boomer did here) is fine. However, people with views on either side need to find a different place if they want to push their for/against views. This is not a place for debating these types of complicated and emotionally charged issues. It’s Steeler-related to post what a Steeler has said or done, and then we leave it at that and avoid a descent into an ugly debate.
This thread is going to get interesting.
Not with the mods. The thread itself will get locked out. As Elvis stated, Steelers talk only.
Between me and you, I personally cannot wait for the early Training Camp reports!
At least for the Steelers, I do not see a problem. The Steelers have addressed it with the players. If it is done for the right reason, with class, and without disrespect, it should be fine.
For some reason, I do not see many Steelers kneeling. I also don’t see it creating a rift.
It went pretty smooth the first time around...
It's amazing that the ppl who stand for the anthem are the ones that have to explain themselves.. This country is just effed in so many ways anymore
He's free to stand just like he's free to kneel if he chooses to. That's what this country is supposed to be about.
That is what the Steelers need to avoid. To be clear, I'm not criticizing what Villanueva did, but it is important that they are all either on the field together or in the tunnel/locker room together. Then each player can decide to stand or kneel.
"I know all of our players will be standing out of respect for their teammate, Alejandro Villanueva" - Mike Tomlin, 2016.
He's entitled to his opinion. It's annoying how people are going to act him for this. But also he could have just done it and not ran to Twitter to talk about his actions months before. He wanted attention and he's going to get it. He basically pulled an AB/Bell.
Tuitt would probably get injured kneeling, then be out for the season .
It actually went pretty well the first time. A bunch of dumb asses without all the facts tried to turn it into something it wasn’t. Then a bunch of other dumb asses believed the bs the first bunch put out.
Although, the same dumb asses will still be around.
Me, I’ll be ok with it.
I may just have to get his jersey now.
Funny, Well not really...But when someone like Brees, Ditka,Tuitt take the " I won't kneel "side, they get lambasted...THIS " opinion " is not allowed, only the other!
Football is what it’s supposed to be about.
Don’t think I have ever seen the anthem played excluding playoffs when I watch on TV. Has zero affect on me and still enjoy the games just as much.
The damage control went pretty well. What the team planned on doing and what actually happened that day were two different things.
It's way down my list of things concerning me about football this season*.
Didn't need to know why. That's the default position.
That's all I have to say about that (under board rules).
What about the players that aren't from the US? Wouldn't they be more in line with taking a knee for what they're trying to make this dope show represent?
Referencing Marilyn Manson's
"We're all stars in the dope show"
Kudos to Tuitt for standing up for what he believes in, and then standing by it.
What a time to be alive! Freedom of opinion and speech as long as that opinion and speech is the “allowed” type!
USA circa 2020
This country suppose to be about football? That would be better than being about warfare on $$$.
No the NFL is supposed to be about football. I tune in to watch the game not to be force fed athletes opinions on social and political issues.
Just show up and play football. If you wanna express your opinion buy some tv time and blab away.
