    From what I read it was because Gilliam was addicted to herion. Also that is why they steered clear of Marino because of a coke rumor.

    The Unitas question reminded me of a similar one...

    At some point in the 1980s the Steelers drafted a tight end in the 5th round, but released him during his rookie season. He went on to be a 3 time All Pro and won 3 Super Bowls with another team. Who is he?

    The true story behind Marino was that Art wanted him and was overruled when it was found out he was basing it on a reporters profile of Marino. It's in Art's book. It's also why Art made sure we took Ben, didnt want to make the same mistake twice.

    my alma mater. now the mascot is a kangaroo named zippy. when I played there we were a division III program. we used to play at the Rubber Bowl. I wonder if cinci was derived from the canton bulldogs, the first pro team? i'll have to do some digging on that.

    I thought bradshaw replaced hanratty.:cool:

    In college TB replaced Phil Roberson because Phil like hunting more than football.

    In the NFL TB technically replaced Dick Shiner.
    68'. Shiner starts 11 games and Kent nix started 3
    69' Shiner starts 9 gems and Terry aha ratty starts 5
    70' TB is drafted and starts 8 gms/ Hanratty 6 gms
    71'. TB starts 13 Hanratty 1
    72'TB all 14
    73 TB struggles starts 9 Hanratty 4 Gilliam 1
    74' Gilliam is on fire, starts 1st two gms avg over 300 yds... Then turnover bug kills him' Hanratty gets a start then TB 7 then the post season and the rest is history
