That was one of my points. I agree. Closing speed. But that was it. That IS it. No instincts, just speed. Point is that without that speed, his mistakes are amplified and he's a liability. Is Schobert an upgrade over Spillane? Yes. Is he an upgrade for Bush? I hope so.

I thought for sure it would be some form of a combo Washington /plus pick compensation...Why didn't Washington play then? Is there another trade brewing?

You know what that 3rd coverage INT one showed? He was covering well downfield.

I didn't even know who Shobert was until the Steelers traded for him. Shows you how much I pay attention to other teams.

Looks like he has a good resume....Steelers needed more quality depth at ILB.

I think you misunderstood what he was saying.

He's saying it's bad and that's why they traded for Schobert to replace Spillane who looks like he's a liability at this point.

    Trade for CJ Henderson then?

I would oh most entertain that idea! That said and, now that I think about it, with what Draft Capital?! Pittsburgh only has their 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 7th for 2022.

Spillane is looking like the least athletic LB on the roster.

That being said if he is an above the neck player he will look better with game planning and film study vs just lining up and playing.

He might still stick. But I've liked UG3, Allen, Buddy, Bundage, Roche, and Jones all more than Spillane so far.

In the battle for 9 or 10 LBs. Spillane is barely on my radar

Watt, Highsmith, Bush. Schobert, Ingram... that's 5 that are locks. That leaves Spillane, UG3, Allen, Bundage, Buddy, Roche, Marsh, Jones....8 guys fighting for prob 4 bones.

If Schobert is here to bump Spillane back a spot.... backup is also where Buddy was slotted in.

UG3 or Allen probably the back up to Bush.

Its probably 1 more OLB ...Although right now I keep both Roche ans Jonez

    So you need 2 ILB.....
    MIKE is Spillane vs Buddy
    WILL is UG3 vs Allen

I'm thinking you have to keep Buddy unless he just is not above the bar on SPECIAL TEAMS.

    Watt, Highsmith, Ingram, (your choice)

    Bush, Schobert, Buddy (your choice)

    That's 8...do they keep 9? 10?
Normally they keep 6 DL 10 DB and 9 LB

For my final 53 I think we are looking at Spillane, UG3, Allen, Roche, Jones , Layne, Shakur Brown, Denmark, Brooks fighting for spot 52 and 53.

honestly I'm not sure Spillane is on this roster in Buffalo

    HACK

That is your opinion. I saw a good player who was already a huge part of the defense. No, he really wasn't on the cusp of being a bust when the injury happened, but we will have to see how he recovers.

Don't get me wrong. I thought they never should have been in the position to have to trade up for Bush. They should have taken care of the ILB problem by taking Leonard instead of Edmunds, but some folks here work very hard to back up their criticism of the team paying such a high price for Bush.

He isn't depth. He is the best inside linebacker on the team.

I just hope the Steelers can keep his 7million on the books and not try something stupid that locks them in to this pickup for several years.

He arrives in Pittsburgh with only 1 year guaranteed and no Cap loss if things go wrong. Jax kept all his Bonus money on their books for NOW!

Since Washington was not involved, he is still around to trade to the Jags for CJ Henderson. I would do that for sure, but I have no idea how that impacts the cap space. The only thing that gives me a little pause is that Henderson is very young, and the Steelers do not have a good track record of developing defensive backs.

sutton does on the outside. i never thought he had the long speed to keep up with some receivers. he played well in the role he was in before but this role scares me too. we have better if they give them a shot. keep him in the slot and sub packages. we shall see. i do think we have some players back there if they use them. gilbert and pierre and even killebrew at safety.

I was saying this since OTAs. I thought Sutton should have stayed in the nickel slot and Pierre taken over as the outside CB until someone has shown they're better than JP. Maybe they don't think Sutton is physical enough or that they want a more proven commodity as the #2 outside CB, I don't know. But if Sutton struggles a couple weeks into the season I hope they are willing to try alternatives.
