inflation at 3.5%, that’s laughable! Been to the grocery store lately?

Yep. The inflation experienced over the last 2 or 3 years was the largest we'd had in about 40 years. Couple that with wages not keeping up and other fun things going up like insurance rates and alot of people are feeling it.

Inflation as of December, as I said.

Anyone who thinks prices are going to return to what they were before is crazy. In order for that to happen we would have to go into a major recession, wages would have to plummet, and unemployment would have to sky rocket.

I said December, not the past 2 years. Again, all economies are in a state of inflation or recession. The goal is to keep inflation at a manageable rate of 2% to 2.5%. It has slowly been leveling off to that which is good.

Inflation is not 3.5 percent. The unofficial (real) inflation rate is closer to 20 percent. It’s very deceiving tactic used by the fed and party in charge to try to win votes and simultaneously make the consumer feel like they’re doing something wrong. They’re not. The government is screwing them by printing money non stop. thereby devaluing the dollar. Any country that prints money out of thin air devalues their currency. Whoever is dependent on the dollar feels this effect.

There are a lot of factors in play with the 3.5 number, but off the cuff two can result in what you're seeing. One would be the affect of categories outside of food showing significant recession. Last year, fuel oil, energy, gasoline, and electric all showed significant negative inflation (to the tune of -20%+ some months). The dollars tied to those categories has the power to dramatically affect the overall inflation rate.

The other would be compound inflation. This would apply more visibly to processed foods, but it's across the board in varying degrees. Put simply, it's the concept that many costs of business come into play for putting that steak in the meat case every day, not just the, say, 3.5% increase in cost from the beef supplier. So the retail may in fact be more like 7% or more to the consumer. Is there some corporate greed baked into the equation? Sure. Most companies are much more diligent about putting measures in place to stay above their projected loss budgets than they are concerned about significantly beating them.

I tend to lean this way as well. Not 20% necessarily but the overall CPI and rate of inflation at least in Canada is kind of shady since energy and food are not considered. Food and energy prices are exempt from this calculation because their prices can be too volatile or fluctuate wildly

They have to keep the population dense. And I don’t mean thick.

And yes leveling off is good but doesn't do much for the pinch the initial larger than normal inflation created with other life expenses going up and standard of living raises not keeping pace at the time.
