Took himself out of the game, that he got dominated in. Sounds like
real weiner, I mean winner to me. When the going gets tough, he takes himself out of a game?
I hope the Steelers can change this. Will he be able to keep his weight down?

They didn't ask Ta'amu in college to do exactly what Casey does in our 3-4. He most definitely will need to be coached up, and I don't see him playing much next year since we still have guys ahead of him....

Yeah, that bit of the story was unsettling for sure. I don't have an issue with him getting beat especially by our #1, but the removing himself and contemplating his future part...? Now, if he healed from that moment and grew from it, it could be a real bright spot, but if he didn't and just wanted out. I don't know what to think of that...

He's a great prospect for sure, but the shoes he's trying to fill and this fan base and the history of this organization and the point in the draft he was chosen (a little late to instill great confidence and early enough to have some pressure) makes me think this guy is standing on the least firm ground from this draft class.

LOL, and he'll now have to practice against him every day.

Look, I know it seems weak to remove yourself from a game. But I'm going to give this guy the benefit of the doubt. It might not all have been frustration (although I'm sure his frustration level was at peak). He could have been exhausted too. Maybe he felt he was hurting the team with his performance. Have you ever tried so hard that the harder you fought, the worse you did? In the end, he did get back up on the horse. I think he'll be stronger for it.

I'm going to stay on the positive side of this story: We have a lineman who's so good, he makes guys tap out. :)

Well, it was DeCastro's Line Coach Mike Bloomgren who said that, and he was bragging him up (not that he needs to, Decastro is a beast of a Guard). It wasn't exactly what he said either. It was from an interview on WFAN the other morning. You can listen here if you're interested; that particular sound bite starts around 1:40. :)

Did anyone catch that game by any chance? I'm curious how true that is (the removing himself from the game part). From the highlight reel, you can see Ta'amu in the game into the 4th quarter, and I couldn't find any mention of it in the few post game articles I read. He definitely struggled that game, not just against DeCastro, but most of the Stanford Oline was dominating that day.

Here's a highlight clip from that game, followed by the post game interview with Ta'amu. Enjoy.

That's my feeling on it too. Plus, so many people here were killing Ben for not removing himself from games when he was hurt. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Have to admit, I am shocked that an athlete removed himself from a game though. But like you said, that just speaks volumes about DD :herewego:

*** Everyone has mental Hiccoups, reality he got owned as did his whole defensive line... They had their number for that game and the offensive line was just in perfect sync thats for sure great reads though
