My money is still on Highsmith to be the odd man out. Last year of his contract and the Steelers will not be able to meet his demands in free agency next year.

I keep pointing to the. Iowa state pro day and McDonald.

Sign Bud for this year and then let McDonald take over after that.

We stuck it to the Bears once already with Claypool. I doubt we fool them again.

No way. Trade up ONLY if it's for Broderick.

If they move up, it's for Broderick Jones. Tomlin wants Picket safe and Najee to finally go off.

I think DJ is a top 10 WR in the league. And top Corners swear he is a problem. I think I'll trust their opinions.

I want DJ to stay, but if we trade up then it should be for Jalen Carter and no one else.

He is the only player worth trading up for. That said, we shouldn't trade up at all.

I will not believe they are going after Carter until I see his name appear in the Steelers 30 Visits. Also unless Cam has told them this is his last year, they don't need a 1st round DT because they just signed Larry O to a 3 year contract with $21 million guaranteed.

Question: Would this be a fair trade. Highsmith and #17 for Chicago's #9?

I guess it would be fair, but it creates a huge hole that was not there. I hope they can re-sign Alex, doubtful but at least you have him this year. I just do not see progress creating holes, hoping to fill holes with someone that may just be a bust. I know risks are sometimes warranted, but aside from CB, I think the signings so far tried to fill gaps and provide decent depth, as they attempt to build further in the draft. I'm not against moving up, but I'm just not convinced the tape (after a select few) is worth the price.

I dont know about top 10 but he is much better than many give him credit for. 2022 was a disappointing year for him but the ability is there to bounce back.

I don’t think they can afford to trade up, too many needs. If they believe there is a blue chip player at a key position within reach then they may do it but I’d be surprised personally.

According to a draft value chart I looked at, that puts Highsmit’s value comparable to a mid to late 2nd rounder. To me, that seems close to right, maybe a bit too high. Depends what Chi thinks of Highsmith and whether he fits their needs.

Claypool was a struggling WR and we got a high 2nd for him. Highsmith had 14 sacks last season and played solid defense across the board. He’s a proven player who is still ascending. I don’t think Highsmith’s value is that low.

If the Steelers needed a WR would you give a high 2nd rounder for Claypool?
if the Steelers needed an OLB pass rusher would you give a mid/high 2nd rounder for Highsmith?

When you are on the getting end vs the giving end, the perspective changes. My guess is that most on this board would not want to give their up their 2nd rounder for Highsmith if he was a say a Denver Bronco. You can’t always rely on a team making a stupid trade.

You’re basing his value on your opinion and not on what teams actually pay.

The value is what you can get, unless someone was confident they could sign Alex, why would they give a high second? Steelers being so active in FA its doubtful they will qualify for any extra picks, but if Alex leaves FA they likely would get a 3rd in 25 if they are not as active next year. I don't think all those calculations are thought about this far out, but the thought of trading him, or DJ (for instance) when they have been building a competitive team for this year just makes no sense. Will that competitive get them to the SB..doubtful, but then again you never know. Will creating more holes you need to fill get you there quicker, more doubtful.

Folks, JaLen Carter is a difference maker if his head is right?
Before his stupid choice he was most talented player or BPA
In the whole draft.I doubt Seattle will let this talent slip an further than
    5.

That stupid choice raised a red flag. One red flag might not take a player off a draft board, but when you start lining up a series of red flags it's buyer beware.

He showed up to his Pro Day noticably heavier than during the Combine. Red flag.

He then ends his Pro Day workout earlier. Was it because of attitude or because his extra weight tired him out too much? Either way, red flag.

He stated he wouldn't do any pre draft visits to any team that didn't pick in the top 10. I actually see several red flags with this. Is it arrogance? That kind of attitude suggests he might come to camp out of shape and lazy. If it's not arrogance, maybe it's lacking intelligence. Teams might be less inclined to trade up for him without a visit. There's also his free agent market in the future. 5 years from now some GMs might still be pissed off at him for refusing a pre draft visit. We all know the Steelers tend to go after free agents they've already met previously during the pre draft process. It stands to train done other teams do likewise.

I have a feeling Carter will be like AB, an elite player who's character issues outweigh his talent. Let some other team deal with him.

I don't see this. Heyward's last season, this year - I think. BIG $$ off the books. Highsmith is pretty good, a fair extension and you lock that up for 3 or 4 more years.

I agree with everything but that last sentence. AB had the best work ethics, he honed his craft obsessively.

I feel Carter is lazy and will try to coast on talent and will fall way short of his potential.
