Yes...I am speculating that Clemons will drop passes in Pitt...just like he did his entire college career........Other are speculating that he will suddenly grow new hands and be a ball grabbing machine in Pitt.

I am pulling for him...but I would not bet money on him.

He's also had 4 OC with 4 different offensive schemes in 4 years. A little consistency from coaches could do Clemons a world of good.

Just got here and not feeling like reading all 4 pages, but my thoughts on the signing and on how it affects Wallace are this:

-Great signing. If we had waited a year, it could have been a lot more. My initial thought was that $7 million per year was more in line with what he would have gotten next year and so we might have overspent, but the fact is that the WR market is ridiculously out of hand right now (Vincent and Desean, Josh Morgan, Pierre Garcon, etc.) and so he could have fetched even more. And with a worker like Brown, you don't have to worry about him getting lazy. 6 years for a guy his age is perfect.

-I was impressed by how much space we still have available, so we can still get Wallace and have a teensy bit of wiggle room left over.

-Frankly, my initial thought is that this makes it easier to sign Wallace. All players bring their "ego" into negotiations, wanting to be ranked appropriately (I don't think it's just ego. It can affect future negotiations, like billing for movie stars). In my opinion, a major issue with Wallace was that he was worried that whatever he signed for, Brown would get a bigger deal next year. Now that number is already there, and it's not so hard to beat. He could sign a deal for $45 million and quite a bit more guarenteed money than Brown, and even though it won't be as much as he wanted before, he'll still have that support to his "ego" that he was worried he'd lose after a year. $50 million certainly looks a lot better now than it did before AB was signed. I think he'll be signed before camp ends for sure, and possibly very soon.

As one of the bigger Wallace supporters here, I noticed your absence :hmmm: And yes, easily 4 pages of Wallace talk going on :lolol: The problem with Wallace taking 50 million now is it is not on the table anymore. I think he really did piss them off with his negotiating tactics. A little knowledge of the teams history would have benefited Wallace here, extremely dumb move by him. But even if the Steelers do offer him that again, he's going to have to swallow some pride in taking it, I think it's clear he wants more then that.

I was on vacation. And it was 100% Steeler-free. The first three pages of the main board were all new topics. I have a lot of catching up to do...

I'm not sure the Steelers will be so petty. Individual guys can be like that sometimes (when they're being stupid), but the Steelers' FO is made up of several guys who are looking out for much more than several guys. I doubt feelings will play such a role. It's possible the offer will change based on the new money available and the fact that AB's locked up and time passing by, but I think they'll put the books and what's right for the team above butthurt feelings. Anyway, although personal problems can sometimes be a legitimate reason to dictate action, like not letting a bastard player force a trade, I don't see how that would apply here. All we have here is a disconnect on money. It's a holdout, but it seems simple and not really personal. Even if they are pissed off, I don't see them trying to bully him any extra for punishment.

I was surprised @ the size/amount of the Brown signing. Our Pitt signed a receiver with only three starts to 42+ million dollar contract flashed all over the media?!?!? With that stated what a smart move! If AB turns out half as good as we all seem to think he' will they'll save millions. With all the recent signings (our #1, coach, AB etc) and the fact that they are getting away from the three year deals and going for 5_brilliant!

I too have to agree that I think this actually helps, eventually, in getting Wallace signed if only he shows the desire to negotiate in good faith. They have some wiggle room in millions because most of the recent signings have that fifth year built in or optioned. Even DeCastro's signing for four has the club option for that fifth year. We're in good shape financially for the foreseeable future.

Love this signing! And even more, I love it when a high and mighty player gets it put in his face..... :hehehe:

As others have said, happy to see the front office stick to their guns. I'm not going to be disappointed if Wallace still gets a good deal, but hopefully this is a wake-up call......
