.....for 2022 and 2023. It looks like they will be near the top of the list, and have no dead money (at least for now). 2021 may be a good time to have an off year, if there is such a thing.
I think that 2022 is when they draft an impact QB. Or try to.
The Browns look to pay the piper at about the same time. Their cap space shrinks dramatically.

It’s better, but not as good as it looks right now. We still have to sign Watt, next years rookie pool and any free agents to fill the roster. Plus someone will get cut and we’ll have some dead money.

Yep Glenn, but I think they fineggled it to work out more to their advantage for the two seasons following 2021 rather than 2021 itself. They have shed a number of high priced veterans lately. Looking at who is left, it is painful to know that the Big Ben era is drawing to a close.
I think that a lot of moves are made looking ahead several seasons into the future.

I’d rather start out at the top of that list than the bottom of it!

Sounds sweet. Not a college football guy and have no idea what QB's of substance will be available. I'm assuming we will be taking a impact QB for the future.

Scenario 1: Ben plays most the season and calls in quits. (after winning his 3rd SB of course)

Scenario 2: Ben goes down early and Mason lights it up and all of the sudden the impact QB is not needed. That is the only scenario where we wouldn't take a QB in the first round.

In conclusion we will be drafting a QB in the first round.

I thought Ben's new contract pushed 10 million into next season?

And, didn't JuJu's new deal push money into 2022 also?

There are voidable years involved in both deals. Basically, they can be done with Smith-Schuster with no dead money after this season. I forget the exact details of Roethlisberger's renegotiated deal, but I do know it gave them a significant savings.

yes, Ben's dead money cap hit for 2022 is $10.34 million and JuJu's is $5.6 million.

They will be able to compete for Sam Howell with draft choices and salary cap.

Steelers have the lowest active cap spend in the entire league going in to the next couple of years. If they can find a QB and draft well there should be no reason for a long down period after Ben retires.

Re the quarterback position, assuming this is Ben’s last year they would be one of the front runners to trade for Rodgers / Wilson if their teams make them available. It’s probably not what I’d want them to do but purely from a cap perspective they could easily do it.

i believe ebron could be due some dead money as well next year. minkah will be in his 5th year option which will be over 10 million. watt should be over 20 million. it will go quicker then you think. we have a ton of one year deals right now on players that will need replaced or paid.

Unless Howell regresses he has a good chance of being the #1 overall pick, and he may be top 5 even if he regresses a bit (see Darnold as an example). We will need to have a really, really bad season to have the draft capital to compete for him.

$3.9M for Ebron, too. That's roughly $20M of dead cap space the year they start the rebuild, which is why I think they should have started this year.

Yes, we were 12-5 last year but I wouldn't state that we were even close to playing like one the last 6 games of the year and impressively losing to both Cle and QB less Cinci. Agree, we don't need a "complete" rebuild as we have the bones of a good team that needs some filling in here and there to be competitive which is the big question to be answered.

I didn't say "complete". But Ben, JuJu, and Ebron will be gone next year and cost $20M against the cap. What's the point when they are not winning a Super Bowl in 2021?

Could have extended JuJu long term and signed Nelson if they would have cut the elder statesmen who won't be part of the next SB run.

We , or You don't know for a fact We won't make a SB run. Nobody knows.
I seriously remember the Year we won against the Seahawks 50% of the board said there was no chance at making the playoffs let alone a SB.
You never know....That's what makes it fun.

IF, Rodgers sits for the entire year he will be a free agent in 2022. Highest Bidder Baby!!!!

Aaron Rodgers could pull a Bobby Lane, and be a Hall of Fame QB who ended his career in Pittsburgh!

It’s fanciful to suggest it now but remember if anybody had suggested back in 2019 that Tom Brady would be playing for the Bucs they’d have been told they were crazy. Anything can happen in this league. Steelers will have some money next offseason, even after sorting contracts for TJ and Minkah

    No Brice, he won’t be.

He actually has 3 years left on his contract. Until he plays them, or Green Bay cuts him, he owes 3 years. If he sits out the year, he still owes 3 years.

Exactly he has 2 be traded.
So unless You have a completely built team , and a bunch of Money.
    Rodgers = Waste of Time.
    Rodgers isn't TB.
He doesn't take Discounts. No matter what his commercials say.
Also I don't get the infatuation with this pr!ck.
Hes won 1 SB. In Green bay. Green bay is not a Sh!+ franchise.

That is why he will be required to payback $35 million to Greenbay to get out of his contract if he sits out the entire year; Or retires if you want to call it that.

You are right, the 35 million would only get him out of 1 year on his contract.
