Wow - I'm seriously depressed now that I realize how underpaid I actually am. Anybody got a quarter. I'm trying to go see a preseason game. Gots to leave the wife and kids at home though.

Yeah, these two are no brainers. We almost have to restructure them just to avoid gutting our roster. The big question mark is whether to restructure Woodley's contract. I think we will need to do that, and cut at least one vet like Harrison, to have any shot at resigning Lewis. However, restructuring Woodley's contract is a bit more risky than the other two given his performance the past year and a half. If we don't restructure Woodley's contract, look for at least 3 veteran cuts - Harrison, Clark and Keisel most likely. I know a lot of people will say what about Colon - cutting Colon before 6/1 doesn't help us much, but he is a potential post 6/1 cut.

I figured Timmons and Ben get restructured, Troy and Heath are big candidates for it as well. I was up in the air about Harrison, but I'm starting to lean towards the steelers cutting him. Not that I want them to cut him, but I'm thinking they will, especially if they want to give money to Lewis.

The Steelers have yet to approach OLB LaMarr Woodley about restructuring his contract.
Beat writer Ed Bouchette considers Woodley a "likely candidate" to restructure. The Steelers are already reworking Ben Roethlisberger, Lawrence Timmons and James Harrison's deals. The Steelers want Woodley to get into better shape for 2013, but he doesn't appear to be a candidate for release. Feb 26 - 3:24 PM

Keep in kind that the players only win by restructuring, so every player in the league is willing. All that happens with restructuring is that part of their salary for the upcoming season gets paid out immediately as a bonus so that the team can spread the cap hit over the remaining years of the contract instead of all this year.

it depends on how much it saves. we restructured timmons and saved 5 mil.. we were 14 mil. over the cap. now we are 9 mil. over. cutting JH would leave a void, and save us 5 mil., which takes us to 4 mil. still over the cap and we have to replace a starter.

woodley's going to get his money one way or the other. he's been called out in the press and by his team this offseason. what he does with this is up to him. maybe it motivates him to get in shape and play harder for a year. maybe two. then we will evaluate him down the road like we are doing with james. if he slacks off then he's a vet cap casualty then. hopefully by then we have someone in place to take his spot.

they almost have to either extend or redo AB's contract too.

Not all players win in a restructured deal, some get pay cuts when they restructure, usualy when the restructure is a pay cut it's a take it or get cut kind of a deal, if it's just a cash advance, players like that kind of restructure, Ben has those kind of deals where he gets say 20 million in advance against his salary so they can pro-rate it out over the life of his contract: But there is probably 1 player who gets a pay cut for every 1 player who gets a cash advance prorated deal with no paycut.........

Well, there's restructuring and there's renegotiating. Restructuring is when the team converts a portion of the year's base salary into a cash signing bonus to make more salary cap room.
    Player is happy.

Renegotiating is when the team decides they want to pay the player less than the original terms of the contract.
    Player is not happy.
