How does it prevent us from offering someone a deal? We gained cap space.
Shazier is under contract for 2 more seasons

Just this morning got a headline on the wire that says L Green is very hopeful and optimistic he will sign on with another team for this next season. WTF? Sounds like he's reaching out to the Raiders or Bengals.

High risk low reward if he does. Potentially one hit away from serious life altering health issues.

I'm guessing he only wants to play for the bungles to ensure that he doesn't get cheap shotted by the idiot Burfict. That's the only logical reason I could ever see anyone actually WANTING to play there. Although I wouldn't mind that too much since maybe we could let Shazier or Mitchell drill him a few times and maybe let us get our money's worth out of him through some good hits. LOL!

Ha, his press conference would be like: "I've always dreamt of standing in the home of the Ickey shuffle, and now my dream has come true."

I thought it was George Iloka that gave him the helmet-to-helmet hit (that wasn't called) that ended his season?

gained well yes but still have to spread it over two years of dead money. we also will be on the hook for 6+ mil. of that money over the two years unless there is a medical exemption. i'm sure they want to do an extension with shazier to opt from paying that 5th year option that is more expensive than a new contract. money is tight and they wanted deals for AV and tuitt but now we have two years of dead money to deal with plus leaving money for injuries during the year. i'm not saying we won't or can't work something out for new contracts but it makes it harder.

All the dead money is this year, and this year only

yes you are correct rpo, to an extent. we will free up the difference in his 5 mil. payday this year but have to pay 3.56 mil. signing bonus remaining. however i was reading it may cost us another 1.15 mil. to the bill if he gets an injury settlement according to the CBA. http://www.steelersdepot.com/2017/05/ladarius-greens-contract-ranked-12th-worst-2016/

we also will have to have another player to replace him and his salary. that would put us paying more than just greens salary.

Roster and workout bonuses are included in their contracts when they sign, they have no impact on the cap....

    Workout Bonus
Typically small compared to signing bonuses and roster bonuses, workout bonuses are included in contracts to encourage a player to attend off-season workouts and activities. These could be given to players who have reported to camp out of shape in the past, or possibly to older players to encourage them to stay in shape. They are only guaranteed once the given conditions are met.

    Roster Bonus
Roster bonuses basically say, "if you are still on the team when the new league year begins (typically in early March each year), we will pay you a bonus of X dollars." Unlike signing bonuses, roster bonuses are accounted for in their entirety in the year which they are paid. Let's revisit Bob Player's contract once again. If he has a $1 million roster bonus payable in year three, his actual pay per year would be $4 million, $4 million and $6 million, while his cap impact would look like this:

    • $2 million ($1 million salary, $1 million signing bonus (prorated)) in year 1
    • $5 million ($4 million salary, $1 million signing bonus (prorated)) in year 2
    • $7 million ($5 million salary, $1 million signing bonus (prorated), $1 million roster bonus) in year 3

We could spend that on an over priced defensive back free agent. All of our problems would be
    solved.
