Jason LaCanfora is reporting that the Steelers are releasing Scott. This should come as no surprise, but it's news nonetheless.

Edit- He's already been released per the Steelers site. stlrs.co/PniK81

Should be indeed. Cutting Scott puts us close to 6 million under cap, which should be plenty to take care of Wallace and DD. :)

I have to admit, I was a fan of his signing when we got him. He came from the Bills where he didn't play half bad (I get stuck watching a lot of Bills games) and I thought he'd come here and be able to fill in fine when needed. Well, he filled in, but he might just have not even showed up.

He was a RT only...he played OK when he filled in at times at RT...probably only a backup or possibly an RT for a RT needy team. This at least gives him a chance to find a new home and saves them around $2.2 mil. Starks must be in really good shape as far as his injury/etc...plus they Adams, Essex and even Foster who can play RT also. Good move here, better now than later!

no real suprise here. saves us 1.5 mil. i didn't mind scott as a backup. he played pretty well in 2010 down the stretch for us and he was pretty good as a RT. texas LT's never have panned out well in the pro's.

It saves $2.2. His contract would have been a $2.7 cap hit, minus the 500k dead money.

Wow....! I thought I was the only one praying for the Steelers to cut him... After letting an lb in causing a BB fumble, he made no effort to recover the ball when he clearly could have but was too lazy. Can't remember what game it was last year but he should have been cut immediately

I'm really looking forward to seeing what this line can :towel: do this season

I'm liking this. I'm not sure I've seen a single post defending Scott pretty much since he arrived here (on here or on the board-that-shall-not-be-named). I presume he showed something that let him stick around - and get a fairly good contract - but I could never really tell his peformances apart from other backups and rookies in preseason.

Like I said earlier, when he was in Buffalo he wasn't bad. I was actually quite pleased with the signing because I thought he could be a good fill in guy, as needed. Maybe he was just severely out of position at LT.

Is the $6 mill. also counting Starks contract?
    Just wondering.

Re: Steelers To Release Jonathan Scott

I know I said close to 6 million, but after taking a closer look at the numbers, it's probably closer to 5 and a half as of today. Just wanted to update my comment for accuracy.
