you probably know what happened to the last Pittsburgh WR who wanted to get big-time money ;)
[spoiler:26uh2v5r]he now plays for fat rex :D[/spoiler:26uh2v5r]

that said, I'm confident that between the three signed WRs (Brown, Cotchery, Sanders) plus Heath, there is more than enough receiving thread on the Steelers' roster to win games :herewego: ... and make Ben happy

I'd say it is pretty much "under the radar" - maybe not to Steeler fans, but I doubt this even made Sportscenter. I think all Jack is trying to say is these are the solid type of strategic moves the Steelers usually do right to maintain competitive.

I look at this as a very strategic decision by the Steelers on multiple fronts. (1) It says to Wallace - look you want to hold out, we feel confident that we can put three solid receivers out there in Brown, Sanders, and Cotchery...you might want to think about either signing the tender and playing for the massive contract next year or work with us on a contract that will pay you well but not in the elite status of receivers (2) If Wallace does come back - it says to Sanders, your injuries are a concern and you are going to have to compete for that #3 spot and (3) possibly gives Ben/Haley that perfect safety valve receiver who is a veteran who knows how to get open.

By the way - was everybody ready to throw their beer bottle into the wall last night watching the Pens give up a big lead again to the Flyers, I swear from mid way through the 2nd period and into the 3rd they spent 80% of their time on Philly's side of the ice.[/quote:2m0gj8qy]

They did announce it on ESPN last night during NFL live or some draft special. An interesting tidbit that they added when they announced about the signing was that he would be competing with Sanders for the #3 spot.

I wonder if Steelers allowed Cotchery to compete for the #3 as a selling point to get Cotchery to sign, cause I can't see how he didn't get more money offered by other teams. Cothcery wasn't the #3 last year, he was #4 all year.

I'm sure they'll let him "compete" like they'll let Jason Worilds compete with James Harrison. I'm sure they did say that to get him to sign, not that he's stupid enough to believe it. I'm sure he knows what's up. If Wallace stays, he's #4. If not, he's bumped up a notch. There's also Sanders' injury history. But Sanders is the superior player right now and far more dangerous. He will enter the season at #3, and deservedly so.

Also, Cotchery wasn't #4 all year. He was #5 until Ward got hurt in week 7.

Well he ain't Randy Moss. What I mean is that the Steelers are masters at finding good, solid players who don't generate a lot of press (Mewelde Moore, Jeff Hartings, Charlie Batch, Cotchery, etc.) but are strong contributors to the team's success. They don't go out and try to sign THE best WR on the market but they have a way of signing value picks along the way to plug in the gaps. They also have a way of keeping the free agents they want to keep, like Cotchery. That's what I was referring to when I said "under the radar".
