not sure why you want one of our players to fail so miserably. LJ is 2-2 for us. beat the cards, beat the browns. helped our playoff runs those games. lost to NE but played pretty well ( BR played pretty bad against them), played a little more poorly against the chiefs ( BR couldn't muster a TD against them last year). why so much hate on this guy is beyond me.:hmm::cool:

Not really hate just what I think his skill level is ....He looks slow on his reads,he looks slow on his release, he doesn't have the zip to fit balls onto tight windows ...He has no escape ability , he can't even make those small moves in the pocket to extend plays ...

When he starts we call the same plays over and over again they only trust him with a small percentage of the play book..He simply doesn't have enough skills to be a starter in the NFL..

With the Team knowing that Ben is all but gone we need a possible starting caliber QB ,so it's not that I hate LJ , I just don't think he is very good and I don't see him getting any better ...

If he was our starter I would root for him , but I would not be surprised if he only won a few games a season as I think that is his max skill level.....

Wow, fake news. Thats all :bscow:

His biggest problem, hes inconsistent. I.E. backup QB.

Its funny when Mac and I point out that he is 2-2 and those wins were instrumental in making the playoffs, that all you hear are crickets. Obviously people must want him to perform like a starter and ignore the fact he is a backup QB whom is filling his duties as a backup QB I might add.

With the starting QB getting ready to leave ,we need a bu who may be starter capable ..So yes if he is the primary bu I do expect him to perform at a higher level..Him taking reps from other QB'S who might be better hurts the Team in the long run IMO ..

I would prefer 2 different QB'S behind Ben so they can get experience like LJ has ...He has had his time to develop and a fair bu is all he could muster ...This time next season we will need much more than that ...

All know how much I root for DHB , but if AB was probably leaving after this season I would be calling for him to be cut as well ...We would need a future #1 type WR and giving those reps or that roster spot to a Vet is not a good move under those circumstances this is exactly how I see the LJ situation...

Reality... Ben is leaving within 3 years.. Dobbs would be great timing wise.... to continue on.. Next year we will draft another QB either way...
Hopefully we get a player before Ben leaves. Or its 1-15 to place for a good QB in the draft.. i would rather have a Dobbs show up now.

Nope. Steelers are effectively all-in for a Lombardi run in 2017 & 2018, while BB is still here. That doesn't leave significant resources to throw at a hopefully-our-next-franchise QB (let alone TWO!!) Face it, the front office is prepared to trade two years of brilliance now for a two comparatively crappy post-Ben seasons later.

We should have moved up in the 3rd round and drafted Davis Webb:

    NFL.Com:
California quarterback Davis Webb, believed by some teams to be a first-round caliber passer, went to the Giants with the 87th overall pick on Friday. Webb is the highest passer taken by the Giants since 2004, when the team picked Philip Rivers and swapped him for Manning in the first round.

A transfer out of Texas Tech -- Webb battled eventual first-round pick Patrick Mahomes for a starting spot -- Webb replaced last year's No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff at Cal and posted 4,295 yards and 37 touchdowns in 2016.

"We thought he had the best arm in the draft this year," Giants general manager Jerry Reese told reporters. He added: "He has a high ceiling that can develop behind (Eli Manning)."

Being a Vols fan, I'm pulling for Dobbs to do well. But I've seen every UT game he's played in. He's a Jekyll and Hyde type of QB. One game he looks great and the next he looks lost. In the game he looks great, it's his legs that do the most damage and those types of QBs never do well for very long in the NFL. They just don't. Like I said, I'm pulling for him to play well. I just don't have high hopes.

Kind of reminds me of the current Ben then when it comes to home/away games.

At home, he looks like a Hall of Famer. Away... just yuck.

At any point... this Friday definitley will be intriguing to say the least. Joshua's first NFL litmus test. Let us see how he does.

Thanks for posting. Hopefully more reads this to get to know him better and understand what a hard worker he is. It's why I have no doubt he will get better now with a QB coach.

While his legs helped to get out of trouble it's not why we won games.

Go watch the florida game 2cd half. His touchdowns to Hurd, Wolfe, jennings and Malone were all from a collapsing pocket as he got hit.

He holds in the pocket nice.. he is not a runner when trouble shows up like Vick or Kap.

I'm not sure how much of a litmus test it will be. Tomlin uses the preseason effectively as an extension of training.

Still good to see all these prospects in game action, obviously, but more than likely coaches will use the game to test some specific aspects of his play.

The LJ conversations seem to always turn out this way.

I don't know why a back up QB catches so much flak.

Draft status combined with perception that he was the heir apparent. If he had been a 7th Rd pick I'm pretty sure that the negative opinions would be smaller. Too many still believe that they traded up to draft LJ.

two 4th round picks were not the steelers plans for replacing ben. these guys are to replace gradkowski, an aging charlie and an injury prone leftwich. c'mon the steelers are better than that. we will get another starter when ben goes and we have that money to either sign one or we will draft one earlier than the 4th. by that time we have two guys that can at least keep us competitive if the new qb fails badly. we still need two backups behind player X. why not have two home grown players like dobbs and LJ, since we have so many other weapons at hand already. if dobbs and LJ improve enough to be that guy then great for us, we have a qb controversy.:cool:

All the more reason it will be intriguing to see what Dobbs can do. Let us see how well he does in his first trial by fire. :smiley1:

Dobbs is starting the game against the Giants and will see significant time. The only thing I`m looking for is if he "looks like he knows what he is doing", which was my first impression of Ben. I would be very excited if I could honestly say yes. If he ends up looking confused and very rookie, it`s not the end for him of course, but would be a bit disappointing to me.

I hate to bust some bubbles here.... but I wouldn't expect much from Dobbs. Rookie QBs not named Roethlisberger, Prescott or Marino usually don't do very well. It's an unwritten law of football physics... rookie QBs fresh out of the NCAA... 99 times out of 100 don't perform well against NFL defenses.

This is what I'll say about Jones. If after 4 years you still have a deer in the headlights look on the field, it's time to move on. He still has that look.

i don't see that look at all. i guess you don't remember how charlie and lefty looked while being backups. it was far different than when they were starters. they were in the league a lot longer than jones has been and they still looked totally different as a backup. you just don't get that much work to be flawless like most fans think they should be.
