It has been said in the media and I could see it as soon as the Steelers took the field. They were not ready to start the regular season. Mike Tomlin seems to make the same mistake every year. The starters need to get a good amount of playing time in the preseason in order to shake off the rust, and get re-accustomed to playing football at game speed. It appears to be true, especially for Ben Roethlisberger, who even admitted that he would like to have gotten more playing time in the preseason. The Steelers will come around, but it is going to take more than this game for them to be in regular season form. The Cleveland Browns have improved, but the Steelers should have beat them soundly. You have to put the blame on the head coach for not having the Steelers ready to play. That’s his job!

The Camp Cupcake term has been thrown around quite a bit. I never really agreed but maybe there is some truth to it.

They are not football ready to play. I have seen this for some time now.
I blame not playing in live exibition games. Steelers mgmt will have to come to a decision
on how to play players during exihibion games to get ready for real season.

Admittedly, I’ve seen scores but not game footage around the league this weekend. But...the scores imply that a lot of teams didn’t come out of the gate with lots of rust.

Why do the Steelers always have this issue?

I've been asking this question since the Cowher days.

Ben. He is never ready. Honestly whenever we lose it is almost always because Ben played poorly. We rarely lose when he plays well. Maybe playing more in the preseason would have helped but it wouldn't have gotten him on the same page as AB since AB was out with an injury.
