With limited picks I don’t see them drafting a WR this year and I think there will be a QB in there somewhere.

The RBs they are bringing in for visits tells me they fully plan on Warren being the lead back.

I think the first 3 picks will be any variation of DL QB CB.

Hope you are feeling better AQL :thumbs up:

    It is thankfully!

That said, some structural damage around the area. Namely in the form of powerlines and internet. Didn't have that for a while.

When we select at 21, Emmanwori may be the bpa on our big board. I would love to draft him there.
He would play box Safety/NB for us and just patrol the middle. Whether he lined up at Ss or ILB, he's a defensive weapon all over. Versatile player.
Following the' dinners', Mykal Williams is the only 1st round prospect to have dinner with Tomlin so far. Williams is also a defender you can deploy from everywhere. He is also someone to use to patrol the middle.
Plus.... both Emmanwori and Williams are known for their tackling prowess.

Sanders is considered the best receiving RB in this class by several scout sites. I know that is something Smith and Tomlin both want.

What's the deal with Rocket? How much speed has he lost? He still a breakaway threat? Would love to see him in black & gold if he still has it, even if limited a bit.

One of my mocks. Id be okay with this draft.

    21 Derrick Harmon
    83 Jayden Higgins
    123 Ollie Gordon III
    154 Tyler Shough (Dylan Sampson)
    184 Upton Stout
    229 Yahya Black

I think the simulators are underestimating the rise of Tyler Shough who i think will be a late 2nd to mid 3rd rounder. So i had a second option in Dylan Sampson who was also available at 154. He is also my absolute favorite mis round RB.

Jeatny, Judkins, Hampton and Sampson as my rip 4. Not that vig of a Gordon fan, but it seems the Steelers are so I picked him at 123.

I'll be okay with this draft

The simulators can only do so well. There's always going to be guys severely over and under valued. Makes it kinda hard for me to want to participate in it lol

So which is it? Take the best player available, period, or take one of those positions of need you listed as being in play? Drafting BPA is a myth. There is always an element of need (and scheme fit) that has to go into draft selections because you’re building a roster, not just a collection of talent that doesn’t mesh, and every team will have areas of higher and lower priority to fill. I agree with you that if you lock in on one position for your 1st round pick, you have a big chance of swings and misses - and Colbert did that. However there should also be positions/players that aren’t on the radar for high picks based on lack of need or poor fit.

Teams have so much more information about players than even the best simulators can have. Two cases in point from the last two years: Payton Wilson and Darnell Washington, two players many had in the early 2nd round falling to the end of the third. It wasn't until they started to fall during the drafts that reports of medical problems started surfacing.

I agree with you in part. If we needed a TE then that PSU TE would be higher on our wish list. But that is what fans do.

We don't NEED another OT as far as we know. But if we get to 21 and the highest rated player on our board is an OT, you take him. Why? Because injuries happen. I'm still not confident we've replaced Shazier.

We have Watt, Highsmith, and Herbig at OLB. Not a need. If the highest rated player on our board is a pass rushing monster, get him. BPA.

QB is a different thing altogether though. You will reach at QB. You usually must reach for QB. Ben was a reach. We had other guys higher on our board. But if the QB works out, he ceases to be a reach. Like Ben did. No QB comes into the league without warts.

What do you mean he lost speed? He is a durable back, hard runner, good out the backfield.

I thought it was reported he had a knee injury that took some of his speed.

Ben was not a reach. I saw that you said that in another thread, and it’s a really puzzling statement. I disagree on your tackle assessment. We are entering year 3 for Jones and year 2 for Fautanu. You only spend a 1st round pick on a tackle if you think you need to move on from one of those guys (or if the plan is to move Fautanu inside). Free agency and lower picks are for securing that 3rd T in case an injury occurs. Same for edge, unless we are not planning to extend Watt, in which case getting the next big-time Steelers edge guy in the door on a 4 year + option 5th year rookie deal is a reasonable move at this time.

A team’s 1st round picks should be on the field as much as possible throughout their careers. If you have 3 1st round picks fighting for 2 spots, and one of them not getting any snaps unless there’s an injury, the GM gets fired.

And my 1st round philosophy is you take the best player available. If he's a QB, protects the QB, or gets after the QB, he is a valid option in the 1st.
