I've never understood the comp pick system. Because he got hurt the Steelers get screwed on their pick?

Another aspect that I don't get is, you can choose to not sign a player for a number of reasons, and just let them walk. And many times will get a comp pick for them. You could've signed them but didn't.

However, teams don't receive comp picks due to catastrophic/career ending injury. Why? Like Shazier. We lost our best defensive player, not by a choice not to sign him, but because his career was cut short by injury during his prime. Why wouldn't the Steelers receive a comp pick for that?

Yeah I brought up a comment pretty much exactly this....I don't understand this part of the game either.
Also every time I turn around seems like a new rule I haven't heard of. Well since it rained on November the 16 this Year while Dupree was practicing on the left hand side of Tennessee D line....the Steelers will not receive a comp pick....What????LoL

He has to play a certain number of snaps for the Steelers to get a pick since he’s on IR they said he would have to average 67 snaps a game for the last 4 games assuming he’s back in time

It's not a matter of "enough snaps to get a pick", it's a matter of do we get a third or a fourth round pick. We will receive a pick either way.
