There is really no proof that a teams pre season record has any bearing on a team having a winning or losing season, here's some examples....

    Arizona Cardinals

In 2009, the Cardinals lost every preseason game, but they ended their regular season at 10-6. They were NFC West champions, and won the Wild Card game against the Green Bay Packers. Their loss in postseason didn't come until the Divisional Playoff game against the New Orleans Saints.

    Buffalo Bills

The Bills went 0-4 during the 1990 preseason, but after that they went on to finish the regular season with only 3 losses, at 13-3. The Bills went all the way to the Super Bowl that year, before they lost to the New York Giants in a heart pounding game, 20-19. I'd call that season successful.

    Chicago Bears

2010 the Bears were 0-4 in preseason and went 11-5 in the regular season. The Bears went all the way to win the Divisional Playoffs against the Seattle Seahawks, 35-24, and didn't lose until they faced the ultimate Super Bowl champions, the Green Bay Packers, in the conference championship.

    Indianapolis Colts

In 2005, the Colts lost all preseason games, but went on to win all but two of their regular season games. The Colts won the AFC South, but lost in the Divisional Playoffs to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 21-18.

    Detroit Lions

The Lions proved that the NFL preseason really has no bearing on the regular season in 2008. That year they were the only team to go 4-0 in the preseason. I can hear the excitement now, with Detroit fans thinking maybe it would finally be their year.

Alas, it was not meant to be. The Detroit Lions became the only NFL team in history to lose every single regular season game, finishing 0-16.

As a local sportscaster said about the Chargers, "Their pre-season record is, it doesn't matter and who gives a rat's ass!"
