My favorite pick of the draft, and he is from Ohio State. Yuk.

Grant is probably more well known for being a smart player who reads and reacts well, and is a good tackler. He isn't as much for int's but not because he can't catch. He has really good hands and returns them pretty well when he gets his hands on it (was a punt returner in high school). He's not known for his size tho. At 5'10" he's not imposing, although well built at around 200 lbs. I think Washington is a pretty good comparison, or even William Gay (as an outside corner).

At the very least Grant will be a good ST's contributor and a solid back up CB. Could develop into a potential starter down the line tho.

Never Mac LOL. I am Pitt man thru and thru.
I am hoping the new HC can finally turn arouund this sleeping giant to its rightful place. As a kid growing up in the seventies PITT was IT, My old Pee Wee coach took me and another player to a game against ND Tony Dorseett (the Hawk) freshman year, He put up about 200 that day if I remember right, I was sold. I miss Pitt Stadium.

I think this kid will see more time than most. he brings a different dimension to the defensive backfield and I think eventually could put Mitchell on the bench more. I believe with his tackling ability and coverage ability we will see less true safety/CB position standards and more of a hybrid all DB type of system. Thomas is a good cover guy and tackler and so is grant. cortez is a decent tackler he needs some coverage work in one on one situations but I could see us just using 4 or 5 good cover/tackling guys in a mix back there without as much of a defined role, keeping qb's guessing and hiding coverage. similar to mixing up the rush and where we use our lb'ers as I touched on in another thread. confuse the defense is the name of the game.

I see Grant as having a decent chance at playing a lot this season. He has limited star upside, but has the traits to be a solid starter very early. Possibly even this season if pressed into service. I see enough similarities between him and EJ Gaines in terms of overall game maturity to think that he can have similar success out of the gate.
