Surprising. Only thing I can guess is with their emphasis on running the football this season is AV was good at run blocking because his pass protection was awful.

Surprised tbh. I’d be happier to move on and get younger and cheaper at the position.

He has been struggling for a few years, I don’t know why you would look to extend him in the first place.

    Funny, I feel the opposite:

I felt his run blocking looked poor, looked like he dropped weight this year and didn't have any bend in his hips for leverage, but he was fairly competent at PassPro.

Yes, we could do better at LT, but probably not with an inexperienced rookie or a cheap FA. Might as well kick the tires on him one more year, and hope we can groom someone we draft this year.

Everyone we draft can't be an immediate starter. Push tackle to the 6th or 7th round for a developmental prospect and leave the first 4 rounds for more pressing needs.

It is. But now we just need a center to step in next year, instead of a center and a tackle. Less pressing, in that context. And we re-signed Finney, which means that it doesn't have to be a first round priority.

Unless I am reading this wrong, he was pretty good at run blocking and among the worst LT’s at pass blocking.

Love him to death but we have to get better at that position. Too many times he gets burnt by these young extremely fast OLB's. I'd be all for resigning him for depth but nothing more.

Love AV, great person, but I would have cut him. Then, if there isn't interest, bring him back on the cheap strictly for depth. He doesn't have it anymore.

Unless this is another lateral move in which the Steelers keep the Veteran to train the assumed Rookie, this move makes no sense to me.

He gets no push in the running game, time to move on, I would rather draft a rookie LT within the first 2 rounds and let him play.

I'll maintain faith in Colbert that he will make the best moves for this team

I think you have it backwards. His pass pro was rated very highly, it was his run blocking that sucked.

Next year. Just watch and see. Ben versus Brady in the SB. It would gain worldwide attention.

I wouldn't sign him unless its for dirt cheap and to help mentor a 1st-3rd round pick LT.

At some point, this franchise has to learn that "status quo" isn't always a good thing.

2 sacks, 15 pressures. Run blocking is the worst part of his game but we will have a different blocking scheme which might fit him better. Probably can't afford him but if they can it would fit the bill at LT.

Yup, AV run blocking was poor and pass pro decent at best. No thanks

I am guessing this is his agent doing his job. Trying to drum up interest in his client

If he was that good at pass blocking he’d be one of the most sought after LT’s in FA. Protecting the blind side is much more important to teams than run blocking. Ben getting rid of the ball in 2 seconds has a lot more to do with AV only giving up 2 sacks.

Assuming the team drafts an Offensive Tackle high and Big Al gets hurt at some point in the season, it would make sense then. Counting on a Rookie protecting the blindside is asking for trouble more often than not. That said, Kevin Colbert has already been on record in saying that the Offensive Tackle class is unusually deep this year. Any time Colbert singles out a position like that, said position is not likely to be selected in Round 1. For that matter, I am with @S.T.D that a Defensive Player will be taken in Round One but only if both Etienne and Harris are gone by then. Only major reason I have Jalen Mayfield is due to the type of prospect he is in addition to what the team wants in their First Round selections since TJ Watt.

It is not crazy to believe that both will be gone by then the same. If anything, March 17th will be very interesting as that day is the Georgia Bulldogs Pro Day; Pitt Football the same. I imagine Pittsburgh brings the house to Georgia's Pro Day as that College is usually a hot bed for Tomlin and Colbert to check out. The 30th and 31st are also important as that is both Alabama's and Notre Dame's Pro Days as well. Quite a bit of NFL Talent the Steelers love looking into for both colleges.
