Pouncey is the Highest Paid center in the NFL according to Over the Cap on a avg per yr basis. Now as far as team friendly contract goes all that means is only 29% of his whole contract is guaranteed, if he's cut his final year,2019, there will be zero dead money and if cut his next to last yr,2018, the dead money will be a lowly 2.6 mil. This means his contract is more front loaded allowing restructures of his contract in latter years if we "get into cap trouble" again.

Now as far as resigning and extending Pouncey I wanted that. He is among the best centers, very mobile and key to Munchaks OZBS. I was just hoping his contract avg per yr was going to be 7.5- 8 mil at best and not 8.8mil.

For argument sakes the best centers in the NFL, Max Unger, Chris Myers, Nick mangold & Ryan Kalil all make less than Pouncey but this may just support hugesnack's point.
    -Unger= 6.5 mil/yr and final contract yr is 2017
    -Myers=6.25 mil/yr & final contract yr is 2016
    -Mangold=7.7 mil/yr & ends 2018
    -Kalil= 8.2 mil/yr & ends 2017

Analysis is come 2017-18 Pouncey will be among the best centers but probably the 5th highest paid by then.

Looking further into this I needed to understand who else we needed to resign, soon. Worilds comes to mind 1st as we have zero OLB ( Quality ) and Cortez Allen is our best CB are in their final contract yr. Gilbert too but his contract shouldn't be the heavy hitter the other two are. And of course Ben will need extended soon also. Heyward is under contract in 2015 but after that UFA.

I guess this Pouncey contract isn't as bad as I first thought. Still a bit more than I would have liked, but tolerable when everything is considered.

Yeah, I'm not nuts about it either. I support the decision, but it couldn't have been an easy one. This is one of those things where it makes sense IF...

If he plays like his old self and the knee isn't an issue.
If the whole line improves with Munchak and the zone blocking that couldn't be run without Pouncey.

Those are both things the team has knowledge of, and I don't. I trust them. A lineman and an ACL/MCL is not the end of the world like it can be for, say, a cornerback. Casey Hampton tore his in 2004 or something like that, and when he came back you'd have never known it.
