    1. If we kept him, no one would have asked for the trade.
    2. We are a classy team. Which means we let him go early, so he could eventually find a team. Instead of waiting until yesterday to cut him, where he would have more than likely not been picked up. which would hurt him going into next year to find a team..... so again, we're classy.

Drafting a QB in Round 7 was stupid. You needed a guy not to take snaps during training camp? Sign some bozo off the street and cut him. Especially, if you knew you were keeping Mason.

You traded a 6th rounder for an OL, you could have drafted one instead of Oladokun. He’d of got practice reps and by Halloween, he might be the star of this wretched line.

Agree for the most part...although I dont think they knew they were keeping Mason. Drafting a QB in the 7th to me showed me just how much faith they had in Mason at that moment in time. I remember I wasnt heavily against the pick although I prob would have done something else with it.

Yeah, I think they were ready to move Mason.

They had Haskins and Mason, signed Trubisky for more than Mason was getting and a 2 year deal.

Haskins passed away, and they drafted 2 QB's.

I firmly believe that had they gotten a better trade offer on Mason, he'd be gone and they'd have Mitch, Kenny and Oladokun on the PS this year.

Problem is they were not just going to hand him away for a 5th or less when they still valued him as a 3rd. No one came to the plate and they remember what happened last time they started the season and gave away one with 2 left on the roster.

Yep. Just one more example of poor QB drafts picks by Colbert and Co. He got 1 right in 12 years. Outside of Ben, his other QB picks are laughable: Oladokun, Rudolph, Dobbs, Landry Jones, Dixon, Omar Jacobs, Tee Martin.

Tee Martin was drafted by Cowher in 2000 in the 5th round. Patriots drafted Brady in the 6th.

Our Franchise is trash. We should have given him a fully guaranteed 250mil 5 year contract to protect our precious 7th round pick.

In other better franchise news, Raiders released Alex Leatherwood making it now 6 straight 1st roun picks to either be released a year or less later and or not make a 2nd contract

I don't have a problem losing him or even drafting him....I have a problem with "THE PLAN"

I'm not sure they even gave him a snap in practice

It's one thing to not look good in preseason and be cut. . It's another to be a healthy scratch in practice.

You drafted a 7th round pick to be the ball boy and bag up all the balls after practice.

    HACK

exactly — the plan is the problem. According to the link, he got 19 snaps over the entire preseason. That’s 1 throw every two days! Lol

Nope. Plaxico Burress was Steelers first round pick in 2000. Pennington was the only QB taken in the first round in 2000. Ironic....Patriots didn't have a first round pick that year.

right. So it was logical to draft a late round QB.

Bookending the draft with QBs is pretty illogical

So, there is this: Patriots drafted Brady in the 6th.

Nobody saw Brady coming... he reviews were average (I happened to be right there in Indy that year)

    Flashforward to the 2022 Steelers.
In need a QB, since Mason did little with his opportunity.
QB is a high rate of failure... many bust happen.

So you sign a once highly regarded high draft pick (2nd pick) who has a dicey record.... ok.
Then grab the "most NFL ready" QB in this draft... seems the thing to do when you don't have an option.
But then spend a 7th on some kid, who had some highlights.. Maybe the Brady magic strikes twice?

They did sign a couple FA linemen which both seemed like good additions..
    Instead, they've struggled.

Damned if you do, Damned if don't. :)
