Yeah we get that Glenn and like you there are some fans and posters which come across way to strong and hard on players. We have seen it all between this board and the old one.

Puffing out chest. I am 49 and been a fan since I was 14 :)

So criticizing the Steelers is not okay, but fighting about it is? Your priorities are messed up.

I never claimed to be nor did I ever question your fandom, in fact, I defended it in my first response to the OP. I just found it equally silly to claim that those who don't agree with all the negative criticism, as fans wearing rose colored glasses. All fans here need to be a little more tolerable of different opinions, that includes myself.

Please don't tell me you are one of the parents that get into fights with other parents while attending their kids games??? Whenever I see that crap at my nephews games, I openly mock them, and get people laughing at them, it's great. And yes, before you ask, they do keep scores at the games I go to. I'm all for competition, I just think parents who act like it's the World Series or the Super Bowl are pathetic.

I'm also of this opinion as well but just chose not to put anything because I thought TTF might find it a little border line political. When people tell me they let their kids play in leagues where they don't even keep score I just get so mad I can't stand it! We now are a society that celebrates mediocrity. We can't names "winners" because by default we would also have to name a "loser". So instead we just don't keep score but still call it a "game"?! What's that about? I was just asking someone the other day about where their kids go to school and they said that EVERY kid makes the team regardless! I feel your guys pain and I share your sentiment as well. I have already told my wife that when my son is old enough to play that he WILL know what it means to be a winner and loser. None of this no score nonsense. They say they just want to teach them to compete but without a score what are you competing for? Without stats how do you track your progress? So ridiculous!

Heh heh, the funny thing is, in the UK kids soccer/football matches are proper serious events. All the language under the sun you want, competitive as hell, to the point that referees are pretty routinely assaulted by angry parents. And sometimes angry kids...

Don't want to get to far off topic, but I agree with you. As I mentioned earlier in this thread I coach/manage a 14u select baseball team and have for the last 6 years. Before that I coached a team in the town athletic association. We lost 1 game in two years and the director of the league told me I was too competitive. Parents of kids on other teams were complaining that it was no fun for them to get beat 20- 0 every game they played against us. We practiced two nights a week and went to the batting cages on the weekend at that time. I asked him what he would like me to do and he said that if we have a big lead I should put in a lesser pitcher to make the game fair. I told him I wouldn't penalize the kids for working hard and playing good. So the next season I just took the team out traveling to tournaments. Funny thing is I bet I've had no less than a dozen of the same parents that complained from the other teams ask if we had any room on our team for their kid.

That was the big problem with the message board on the Steelers home page. If you said anything halfway negative you would get flamed for it. I love the steelers
thats why I get so pissed off when they play bad. :)

I used to get really frustrated when the Steelers lost or played bad. I would rant on and on about WHY it happened...as if it were happening to me personally. It's like I would throw out all the good and focus on the bad to the point where I almost didn't enjoy watching the game because of stress and anger.

I'm actually really impressed with the way the team is run, the way it prepares and the number of Super Bowl trophies we have in the case. I'm equally glad at how the team continues to value the man - not just the athlete and draft quality guys that buy into how "we" do things.

So when they lose or play bad? I think about all those things that make being from Pittsburgh - and being a life-long fan such an honor - and so much fun. Guess it helps the medicine go down. :hello:

Thanks for that unhappy memory. I remember that game well and the Cowgirls pretty much had their way with us that day. If I could have found a Cowboy fan afterward...

I have to say...this thread is really bad. Seriously guys? We've resorted to measuring the length of our fanhoods? Surely we're better than this. ;-)

I was just responding to Busman's comment that he had been a Steeler fan longer than me. Just for the record I have no ill will toward anybody here. Some of the posts about the Steelers this week go way beyond normal criticisim , more of a hatred by some it seems.

Some of what is said is just sickening, as well as stupid. I honestly can't believe it. But that's just how some fans are, and this place is here for them to spew that kind of stuff just like it's here for me to use it for my reasons. It's not going to stop. If we finish with the 2nd best run defense this year, they are going to want to fire Dick LeBeau because he's such a "shell of his former self." After all, he used to be #1. It's how it is. All we can do to minimize it is is try to avoid being here after losses.

Look Snack it's not like I don't get it. It just bugs me that's all. I joined this message board to talk Steelers with other Steelers fans. I didn't expect to hear more smack talk from Steelers fans about the Steelers than I do from fans of other teams.
Some of the stuff is just mind boggling.
Woodley is ineffective without Harrison, That is just not true and the stats back it up.
    Troy is done. Really?
Coaches don't play the right players.
I could go on, but it won't help.

Every fan has an opinion. This is a place where we can share opinions, right? Some opinions may be irrational and not well thought out, but it's an opinion that someone may have. What bugs me at times is that if someone's opinion differs from yours or may not be as well thought out as yours then it's a stupid opinion (not talking about you personally). For instance, there are those who may legitimately feel that Woodley is less effective without Harrison on the other side. That's their opinion. It is a valid opinion even though the facts may not bear that out. But instead of saying the opinion is stupid this is the place that we can debate whether or not that opinion may or may not be factual. Some may sincerely feel that Troy is getting older and nagging injuries are starting to get the best of him. That's a valid opinion. I think if we are honest we are all a little concerned about Troy and that his career may be winding down. We can debate whether or not the coaches are playing the right players. I for one have said that both Dwyer and Cortez Allen earned the right to start based on their play in the pre-season. So what's wrong with that? If you or anyone else has a different opinion let's hear it. What gets undrer my skin, and again I'm not saying you do this, is when people want to call your opinions stupid because their opinions may be different than yours. If you want to tell me why you disagree with my opinion and express your own opinion, I don't have a problem with that at all, have at it. But many times there are legitimate questions that are raised by fans, at times maybe in an irrational way, that need to be addressed and if they are addressed in the right way we can all benefit from the discourse.

I have a 76 year old grandfather who taught me about football. He as loved the steelers since a business opportunity in the 50's took him to pittsburgh several times a year. He has always told me steeler fans are the most passionate fans anywhere. Now they are nationwide and sometimes ignorant. Some team always has better coaches and players. You always hear why cant we run te ball like this team or or defense cant stop anyone. I am as guilty as anyone. But that is my right as a fan. For someone to come on amessage board and tell people to shut up to me shows ignorance. U can be a fan for 3 games or 40 years as a fan u have the right to complain, question, or even switch teams. I am sure it happens everyday with every fan base. By the way, i dont see how coaching a baseball team for 6 years and talking about how competitive u are has anything to do with being a steelers fan. I coached girls softball and hate to lose as much as the next guy but i will never tell anyone to shut up. It is a right and thank God it is

That's the stuff that gets to you? I would think it would be the "we suck" or "we won't make the playoffs" or "we're not even going to win 8 games". That's the garbage I have trouble tolerating because really, that's just talking **** about the team I love. We're lucky to have a board where we don't have trolls but sometimes our own members act like them.

I ain't no brown noser, never have, never will be. But we are lucky TTF
has given US STEELER FANS A FORUM TO DISCUSS ISSUES CONCERNING THE GREATEST TEAM ON THE PLANET.
Do I always agree with what other people are saying, NO, Do they agree with what I have to say?
Probably not. But hey thats our choice, Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one,
Maybe some of us are too passionate about the PGH Steelers, and want them to be
the very best they can be. What is so wrong with that? I grew up and still live in the Pittsburgh Metro Area,
My generation, we competed at everything, and things were alot different then as they are now.Maybe I
need to keep this in check better, sorry if I offended ANYONE.

I very much appreciate the fact there are such differing points of view on this board. Its what makes it great. I would hate for it to be 100% in either direction. We all want the Steelers to succeed. Some will see anything other than a Super Bowl victory as a failure. Some are just happy to see us win a division title or just to get into the playoffs. Noone is happy after a loss. Its all different points of view, to which everyone is entitled to, and which makes this board exciting, informative and entertaining.
