The Steelers are expected to re-sign restricted free agent SS Ryan Mundy.
Troy Polamalu's backup notched 37 tackles and one interception in 2011. He has appeared in all 16 games each of the past three seasons. Feb 18 - 12:27 PM

I can't help get past the Broncos game, but I think a lot of that comes with experience.

He's a solid backup and occasional starter.

I think this was pretty much a given. Without him theres not much behind the starters, Cro-Smith is still young...and Allen is just eh and might be cut anyways. So they HAVE to have Mundy back!

Anyone know if it was LeBeau's call to have him run up to the line of scrimmage on the only OT play against Denver? He had a decent game (forced two fumbles!), but if we'd had a free safety playing free safety on that play, we still have a good chance at winning that game. I never heard if he was jumping the run on his own or under LeBeau's orders.

Still, I like him. Not great, but not the hole that Anthony Smith and Tyrone Carter were. He's a big guy. Did a good job on Gronkowski this year. I'm not counting on him to be the heir to one of the safety spots, but I'll take him as a career backup.

Solid back up i like him and hes a local kid. He really made plays all year he could inherit the starting jib from clark.

He's a great back up and a solid fill in guy, but I don't think he should be in line for clark's starting job. he is not the long term answer at free safety

I agree with you on everything except the nice pick. That INT was as unearned as they come. My mom could have made the same play.

That may be, but all of the very few Steeler pics were nice this past year.

Mundy is a good back up.

Seeing everybody ran up to the line I would have guess yes it was Lebeau's call. He had a good game if it wasn't for one of his fumbles, there wouldn't be an overtime.

I could be horribly wrong since i cant find the article but i think i read something about it having something to do with the illegal formation that if the te was in the backfield it called for him to play tight. Im not 100% sure on that but i seem to remeber something about it.

The Broncos were lined up illegally on that play, and it should have been called back, but I don't see how that could have had anything to do with Mundy sprinting up to the LOS and actually affecting the play.

Different formations call for different things the defender does.

It isn't an issue of formation. The tight end was only about a foot backwards from where he was supposed to line up. I'd hardly call that a different formation. It was such a minor thing even the refs didn't notice it (although I wish they had). I don't think Mundy would have noticed or cared about the tight end covering the tackle from where he originally lined up, some 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage. I don't think he'd be like, "OMG, the tight end is off the line of scrimmage, I better blitz!" I think he either just decided to blitz the run, or was told to blitz the run.
