Neither is Roethlisberger, but at least he learned something about discretion as his life went on.

Porter was on Tomlin's coaching staff after that, and supposedly, they were close. The team let him go to save a big roster bonus. I also think they realized what they had in Harrison by then.

Have you read the full accounts of that night? He and his crew got a girl who was under 21 drunk, then he went to the bathroom to wait for her. His boys, including Willie Colon and an off-duty police officer brought her to him, then made sure she was locked in with him and blocked her friends from helping her. I'm not sure either of them was sober enough to do much of anything or clearly remember what happened in that bathroom, but I don't have any doubt about the intent.

Roethlisberger was a bad guy. If you want to believe he changed and became a good person, that's fine. I don't. I think he had people help him rehabilitate his image and he learned discretion. I don't think either of us knows the truth, but both opinions are valid.

When my daughter was young and he was the only Steeler she knew, we offered to get her a jersey. She wanted his and I told her she had to pick someone else. She ended up not getting one until she was better able to choose for herself. I also explained why. I also wouldn't want him within a mile of her.

Yep. This whole discussion isn't me saying Roethlisberger was a saint. Of course the guy made a ton of mistakes. It's about perspective. Some of these guys making comments about him are classless fools that have done stupid crap in their own lives or are just picking a side to back their boys.

Porter was constantly running his mouth, taking bad penalties in the field, and the rest of the team had to pick him up for the mistakes he made. Fans that hate Roethlisberger will consider anyone that says a bad word about him a credible source no matter how hypocritical they are being because it fits the narrative they want everyone to blindly believe.

I don't know any of these people personally. I hope every single one of them is a good human.

It matters what you were and what you did, but it also matters how you use the mistakes you made in life to learn from them and become a better person going forward because of it.

You are doing a lot in this thread. Ben admitted he wasn’t sh!t early in his career. The guy had 2 SA allegations and needed to be suspended to get his head on straight.

Maybe just let folks post about this topic instead of playing Captain save a hoe?

    Just sayin’

Didn't the establishment also claim to tape over the bar video from that night?

That always felt like a red flag to me.

I hadn't heard that one, but the account I read was based on the information local law enforcement gathered during the investigation. The DA was disgusted enough to release it when he realized they couldn't formally charge him. The girl's testimony regarding what happened in the bathroom simply wasn't strong enough. She was too drunk, but that also means she was too drunk to give consent. It has been a while since I read it, but his behavior that night was repulsive regardless of whether or not he could get it up once his guys locked that girl in with him.

Lucky for him, she was too drunk to clearly remember what happened.

Edit: Someone marked this as hilarious and I get that it sounds like I'm joking, but I'm actually serious. If she had been a good witness, there is a good chance he would have ended up on trial for sexual assault or rape.

Well then Joey why don't you give back that ring in protest? Because you wouldn't have it without Ben. So shut your trap!

I'm not saying Ben was a choir boy far from it.

And i'm sure that Joey and the Reindeer wouldn't be fans of mine as well with all the critiquing I did of Bags Tomlin.

And Marshmallow Heyward just sat there...I believe he lost the point of attack once again chasing someone down...

Daytime soaps once targeted housewives. Turns out Steeler fans have their own version of "Days of Our Lives.” :hehehe:

I'm going to call someone when the same guy is posting the same crap everywhere he goes. So I let him know about it in this thread. So what?

You're always carrying on about something. I don't get on you if you aren't insulting me.

Stay out of it if you don't like it.

Captain stick your nose in someone else's fight. You're upset and nobody called you anything. Relax Francis.

    Just sayin'

I thought Porter signed with Dolphins after his contract was up in March of '07. :confused1:

Steelers drafted Woodley and had Harrison waiting in the wings when Tomlin took over.

The Steelers cut him prior to the 2007 season. At least that's what I found.

    https://steelersdepot.com/2025/07/joey-porter-says-he-never-wanted-to-leave-steelers/

Then the fired him as an OLB coach in 2019.

My mistake. I thought his contract was done and Steelers chose not to re-sign him.

If I remember correctly, they waived him to avoid paying a roster bonus.

I dont think his intent was to rape anyone I think his intent was to have sex with a girl that followed him around all night to multiple bars with a DTF tag on her shirt. Two very drunk people went to have sex and something happened in that bathroom that made her change her mind. Probably Ben was a drunk clumsy oaf that was too rough and she wanted to leave. I imagine Ben wasnt too gentlemanly towards her when she did.

I know witness accounts said earlier in the night the bartender yelled “Ben why dont you just take her home” and he replied “are you kidding, thats a rape charge”. Keep in mind this was after Vegas. So hes going to take her to the bathroom and rape her instead? Dont buy that for a second.

No problem. I'm just trying to make sure that what I said was correct. My memory on the subject may have been wrong so I had to check.

Agreed. This is what I recall from back then as well. Some bad things happen when 2 drunk young people start messing around. I think both Ben and the girl had sex on their mind. She was chasing a star and he eventually obliged and both were too drunk to act responsibly. Then after she left the bathroom, her girlfriends had to talk her into pressing charges against him. And then she later decided not to continue. And the DA found her accounts of the night to be unreliable.

Ben was an egomaniac jerk. As were/are a lot of young guys.. I went to school with guys like that, both in High School and College. A lot of shady drunk stuff happened that today would more likely end in a lawsuit than it would have back then. But you can't just absolve the role of the female in this either. By all accounts, she followed him from bar to bar with DTF on her shirt and made it clear she wanted to be in his circle.

Man, Ben must be really shaking his head right now. Peezy just reopened that old, massive can of worms on him again. I feel for Ben's wife and family.
