McCuller's job is to push the pocket and disrupt the blocking. Let the others make the play. This is how it was done with Joel Steed and Casey Hampton.

Definitively good to have some beef up front when you need it.

You were comparing what they did at outside linebacker last year to this year, as if keeping the second nose tackle was the sole reason they didn't have a fifth outside linebacker. My simple reminder of last year's roster demonstrates that isn't the case.

I think that makes 6 safeties on the roster, one will be cut now maybe Dangerfield.

I'll add to my last post also that the Steelers where 2nd to last in preventing redzone TDs last year. Also it's not like McCullers is inept at tackling the ball carrier in front of him. He just has very little sideline to sideline ability, which is expected from a 6 fooot 7 inch 350 lb man.

I assume somebody is going on IR to make room. We don't really have much information on the health of Burnett, Hilton or McDonald, but I'm guessing Behre's return means it is one of the defensive backs.

I can see how you could read it that way, but I was trying to demonstrate that the number kept at each position was flexible. I conceded the point to Glenn that 2 NTs was the norm. I originally made a simple statement that I would have rather kept Adams over McCullers, but shade tree could be replaced with Marcus Allen. ie I would have kept Adams and put Allen on the PS.

The bottom line is I would rather have an unpoachable Adams on the roster than McCullers. Those were the two moves that stood out to me, so the one for one comparison was made I guess.

The other bottom line lol, I would rather see McCullers replaced as the backup NT. He does get work on short yardage situations and STs (field goal/XP block) whereas Adams hasn't shown that STs presence so I can see why they kept him. I still like Adams as the 5th OLB so for the 53 overall, I would have liked to seen him kept. Poaching the PS is a rarity I guess (I dont know the stats), so he's probably safe. Josh Mauro was probably the last or was it the lineman who went to the Jets???

If McCullers keeps up the disruption, I'm all for it and gawd love him but I am pessimistic.

We certainly agree on that last part. McCullers has given us plenty of reason for pessimism.

Allen played in the last two preseason games. I hadn't heard of any further injury, so I doubt he's the one going on IR.

The more likely scenario is the 6th DL doesn't dress and take a wild guess who that guy was most of last year.....He actually got a helmet in only 5 games ,one of them being the last game where we rested our starters on the DL...I'm guessing he didn't see many snaps in the other 4 as well...I still feel they basically kept him because he wasn't PS eligible and technically he is the only backup NT they have....just not a good one.

geezus dude why are you "freaking out" on me :lolol::lolol:

Seriously though, IMO it is a position they could upgrade. I obviously don't expect an all pro in waiting at every back up position but I feel McCullers is just there. I'm more disappointed in the lost potential because the guy could be a real force if he had the desire. It seems that he doesn't have that mindset, from the outside looking in.....I really do hope that changes this year, I mean who wouldn't. We root for the team on a whole. 4 years is a long wait tho.

But I'm also not a Steeler lemming running to jump over the cliff on every move the Steelers make. I have an opinion, like everyone here, and will toss them out. Some are garbage and some are not.

I don't think McCullers has PS availability either so that was probably a factor, I agree.

You don't see keeping him on the team as useful, but I do for situational football. Most of our defensive lineman are pushing 300lbs. McCullers is unique in that he's pushing 350. It's good to have this option on the team IMO.

In theory yes but the fact he only dressed for 5 out of 16 games tells you he isn't even great at that one thing

After the Berhe re-signing the Steelers have put Ola Adenyi on the reserve/injured list, he will be eligible to return week 10.

After hearing this it is a head scratcher why they initially cut Adams.
I wonder if they possibly have something in the works with a free agent? Mean that only leaves us with 3 OLB’s right?

It's possible, Colbert might sign a OLB to a vet minimum deal. I know Steelers Depot have been talking up John Simon.

He comes across as a guy that's too laid back for the position. That's my only gripe with him. He's had a good preseason. Someone just needs to be firing him up. Take his lunch or something. He is in a big year for his career.

I think he'll pull through and show he was a good keep.

There is also talk of him nursing a neck injury so I'm not so sure it would be a wise move.....oh wait a injured FA signing......nevermind he'll fit right in...
