I am having a tough time concentrating on the actual point of the thread. I think pics like that need to be banned during the season, because I might just be too distracted to talk about Steelers football... :roflmao:

    NOT!

What is the problem here, why are the Steelers signing a RB from the Jags? We are fine at RB, and there is nothing wrong with Batch. He has done fine during the pre-season and he knows the offense. It would be crazy to bring a new guy in from another team who doesn't know the offense. Plus, the guy Jason Ford is still on the roster, makes no sense. What is so special about this guy Harris?

At times I don't know what is going on with the Steelers. If they wanted to sign a good running back, why not wait until the final cuts come down on Friday and get a worthy canidate! In my opinion they cut Hrapman to early. Instead they should have cut Kaponis because Butler is the kicker. Again he looked good in the Bills game. What are thye messing around with Kaponis who has not kicked in the pre-season yet. If they cut him, he will be available if it doesn't work out with Butler. IMHO, Butler will be the Steelers punter for a long time! The big question is, why are they messing around with a RB cut from the J-Ville Jags? Somebody tell me that.

I agree with you, Batch has done a good job dring this pre-season, pls he know the offense now. Signing this new guy makes no sense at all. With Ford's showing during the Colts game he would be the one worth keeping if he gets over his injury and has another good showing in this last pre-season game. He is John Clay's replacement. So on the 53 it would be Redman, Dwyer, Rainey, Batch, Mendenhall, and Ford. Thats a pretty tight group to me. Harris has no chance to make the team. Infact, no other person who was cut yesterday could make this team. If they are looking for any person that will be cut, they should be looking for a guard or LB that is cut during the final cuts on Friday, someone worthy of a spot who got cut in a numbers crunch who can play, not some nobody RB who will never make our roster!

    What do you mean?

We want a back who is willing to take a beating this week because they already know which RB's they're keeping, and don't need one of them taking an unnecessary pounding in the final preseason game. This guy isn't here to replace a starter, he's here to fill a very short term role, and in return he'll get some more carries on film for his 'portfolio'.

Jason Ford has been waived, probably injuryed per steelersdepot.

Redman avg stinks but his past performances have earned him a 53 spot.

It seems I'm the only one who feels batch is a one trick pony so far ( blocking ) and I feel he has failed to earn a 53 spot.

Redman's past performances and recent performances earn him a roster spot. It's not just about averages. He has run well all preseason.

And we disagree about Batch's performance this preseason, but let's just say you're right. Even if Batch isn't a very complete back, even if he's a new Mewelde Moore like we all keep saying... that's what he was drafted for. He will never be as good at pure running as Mendenhall, Redman, or Dwyer. That's not the plan. If he can pass protect, catch out of the backfield, play strong special teams, and run occasionally, then he'll be doing his job. And I wouldn't call all that stuff just one trick.

I'm having trouble with all of you (LOL).

We need Mendy back for the regular season against strong Ds like the Ravens.

dwyer is looking like he can do it all right now.

so has batch. he had runs of 16 and 11 last week. one guy from popping an even longer run both times. this kids a rookie and is coming off of major knee surgery. most rookies can't block well or make blocks deep downfield like he has. he does fine with the ones. that's where we will need him. there's room for batch. rainey will be put as a twofer. wr/rb , so how ever you want to slot him there's room.

next year is where the thinking will take a turn. we will have to sign dwyer. we will have to sign mendy. we will have to sign redman. who gets the #3 rb money? batch will then be in his final year. decisions, decisions. i don't want to give up any of them and i hope clay can comeback.

Ok, one trick pony was a bit harsh and slightly misleading. ST play is a plus. I liked Moore, he was consistant and dependable, he wasn't great at any one thing but was good at all things, the antithesis of Batch. If he makes the team it will be as our last resort @ RB. I stand by what I said, his vision stinks, not a good RB,yet, but since most other attributes are of a higher quality he may be worth keeping in hopes his running skills from behing the QB drastically improves.

@ McDaddy: He did have two nice runs. On one Adams had a destroying block that freed him. Adams should get the praise for that run with his pancake. The other run was a double TE set with both Paulson & McCoy having great key blocks. It took no special skillset or great vision seeing where to go. Let's also remember he was against the Bills scrubs who we dominated

Anyway, I'm on an island here, one I wish wasn't there. I had high hopes for batch this year. After watching Ford, well let's just say I jumped ship. Hopefully we'll re-sign him to the PS.
