Looks cool...but to pay those prices for autographs is ridiculous, haha.

Well, I did call attention to 'collectors.'

Anybody who collects Steelers memorabilia/autographs knows that the prices for this show are dirt cheap. Most of 'em run in the $18-$30 range.

I just spent over a grand in Charlotte for several autographs from Hines Ward ($100-$200 per), Aaron Smith, Mike Wallace, and Sean Spence so this event, for me, is a steal.

Bettis and Roethlisberger charge between $200-$300 per autograph. That, to me, is ridiculous.

I'm really looking forward to this show to add some guys to my '70's Helmet' which has all of the HOFers (including Noll) and about a dozen other role players (Bleier, Kolb, Mullins, Greenwood, Wagner, Shell, L. Brown, J.T. Thomas, A. Russell, etc). It'll be nice to add guys like Fuqua, Grossman, Walden, and Cole, on the cheap. I need to get some high-heeled platform shoes (convenient for goldfish storage) for Fuqua to sign.

I have a great Wallace story. 2 years ago we stayed at one of the older high end downtown hotels and we ended up in the same hotel as the Steelers. There were 2 kids who sat in the big lobby all evening long waiting for the players to sign. Wallace told the steelers head of security to have the kids come out by his car. Wallace signed their hats, t-shirts and anything else the kids wanted.

Later that evening James Farrior invited these two kids up to his room for autographs and pictures. Ike Taylor, Ryan Clark and other defensive players signed and took pictures with the kids.

These kids were on cloud 9 and were the hit of the hotel later that evening showing off their stuff. Very cool!

Wallace was cool at the autograph show. I told him we needed to get him signed and he laughed. I told Jeff Reed that a few years ago when he was playing hardball with the Steelers and Reed replied that the Steelers weren't even close and that he needed to think about his family because he wanted to help his parents retire. A shank in Chicago, a shank in San Francisco, and a case of the shanks in Tin Cup-driving range proportions and he's now out of football. Sometimes a bird in the hand . . .

Ryan Clark, by all accounts I've heard from people who promote signings involving Steelers players across the country, is the nicest guy around. He goes out of his way to connect with fans at signings when so many other players are either uncomfortable, unfriendly, and/or just plain don't like doing the signings. Clark truly embraces the fans.

Farrior was cool as hell too. At all the charity functions I attended through the team, Farrior always worked the room and met as many fans as he could during the evening.

Did you see the names they had on that list? That's some serious signings for the 70's team! Holy crap, that's got to be an enormous event!
