Very true... But not such a big arguement when you already know what you have and the have ain't got it atleast in this system. It's as simple as that. Cut bait and go with a whim. Atleast going on a whim gives you hope should the need be scenario arise.

I wanted to see Hodges perform when we had real football players on the field. He never got a chance to perform tonight. Dirty Red was the weak link of the defense all night. He played a ton of snaps. Diontae Spencer never got a chance to return punts ...wtf

I didn't get to see much of the game. My kids had color belt test in TKD tonight. Can anyone give me their impression of the game?

I recorded the game and just finished. Man, the Oline was piss poor in the 2nd half. Hodges moving the ball at all, is a testament to his poise and ability back there. He might have something.

I guess the Panthers Oline don’t hold. We had at least 7 calls... Don’t think they had one. Most of ours were deserved, but wow.

My impression of the game ...it seem as if Tomlin didn't care about the scoreboard ...he only cared about giving guys on the bubble a good chance to prove themselves tonight. I think Dirty Red played every snap til the 4th quarter ...absolutely horrible. Boswell & Berry took the night off. Skipper, UGIII, & Kelly played a lot & they both did very well. Johnny Holton performed the best IMO ..he killed it. Very disappointed Diontae Spencer never got a chance to return a punt or kick. Dobbs & Snell played horrible again. The 3rd & 4th quarter for Steeler fans was basically unwatchable because our O-line played extremely poor ...felt sorry for Hodges & our RBs

    Good summary.

To be fair to Snell, though, he was running into a wall of d-line most times he got the ball. Our o-line were appalling.

Did not watch, will not watch.

I've made my views on the preseason games known (they're useless, even for evaluation purposes) and the last one is the most useless of them all.

I get that we as fans want to see these guys actually play and we then make judgement on them based on what we see. The coaches though see these guys day in and day out over probably 20x the number of snaps they get in all of the preseason games combined. They see the work habits, the consistency, the commitment, etc. that we just don't see. That's why we're often left scratching our heads over some personnel decisions. We only see a small sliver of a player's output while the coaches see the whole package.

Obviously, we'll never know, but I'd bet that the coaching staff knew before last night's game who the 53 were and that wasn't going to change.

I thought Dirty Red was a lock to make the team again, but Robert Spillane might take his spot. Skipper and UG3 are making splash plays look routine.

I didn't understand why they had Eli Rogers returning kicks. I agree, they should've let Spencer get the opportunities.

Damn that Carolina kicker had a leg....Graham Gano better watch out.

I have liked Kam Kelly from the start and he had a nice tackle for loss. But I have noticed him duck his head on open field tackles a lot. He did it again last night and missed. He's gonna end up with a Shazier collision one of these days.

Spillane was impressive but he can't cover. He is a poor man's Vince Williams. Just not a spot for him on the roster.

My guess is that they have already decided to cut Spencer, and are deciding between Switzer and Rogers for one of the final roster spots.

Too bad. I really like Spencer as a returner. I know it’s just preseason, but he shows a level of burst and lateral quickness on punt returns that really passes the eye test. He looks head and shoulders better as a punt returner than anyone else on the roster IMO.

I’m interested to see if they keep Holton. He and Spencer strike me as this year’s “look great, end up cut to our dismay” players.

I think you're being a bit too cynical. I seriously doubt the team had already decided the 53. The games are important to them because game time performance will always trump practice any day no matter if it's preseason or not.

I agree. Sure, a lot of spots are decided, but there are still a few where a good performance in the last game might confirm the coaches view of a player.

Perhaps keeping him out of view so he’s more likely to clear waivers? One can hope.

Well, if it confirms then the decision was already made.

When I saw Eli Rogers back there, I thought my eyes was lying to me ...such a wasted opportunity because there's no way in hell he's making the team. Not being a hater but after injury he's not giving us no production anywhere...

We can judge Snell better if he performs like this during the regular season. But I do remember he did have an opportunity to get chunk yardage if he could've gotten around the corner, but got caught from behind. Curious, have Snell ever had a run over 3 yards this spring?? Shockingly at 1 point ...our o-line was so bad we had 3 consecutive holding penalties?? I remember we went from the red zone to the other side of the 50 just on holding penalties alone all in 1 series ...lol

Also Skipper & UG3 was playing really well on special teams ...there's no reason to keep Matakevich now

In some cases yes. But for example I doubt the cutting of Landry Jones last year was decided before the 4th preseason game. I'm sure we've all made many a decision that comes down to the last minute.
