I don't like making it about race but it's kinda hard not to at least think that sometimes..U see Stephen a Smith loving Tomlin every chance he gets and talks about how ridiculous it is to think about Tomlin being on the hot seat but why doesnt he come to Mike McCarthy's defense.. Dude has a super Bowl just like Tomlin and actually has a little better winning percentage than him as well but be got fired and u don't hear a peep.. But if Tomlin got fired you'd know he'd want an entire show to ramble on about how unjust it is

If you feel that way, keep it inside or spew it somewhere else, not on this board. You’ve been warned.

Says you. Spend a lifetime here watching ownership screw the fans and the city year after year while developing players to trade to other teams. This franchise doesn't deserve to do anything.

BTW..this isn't a he's black so he can't coach statement. I don't care the race anyone is. Results is what I'm looking for. If an alien from Mars could manage the clock better or beat Belichick sign that alien up.

Someone asked why does Tomlin get a pass by the media for his job performance.

    Great question. Why?

Most of the local Pittsburgh media are Tomlin sycophants... PG and TR papers. Mark Madden is an exception, but he's notorious for click bait. National sports media have been critical of Tomlin... watch a Colin Cowherd show.

Bottom line is that when race gets mentioned it can open up a rat hole that this board doesn’t allow, so I’m nipping it in the bud. I’ve seen it happen before. Many times. I’ll also say that a simple answer to your question of “why” is that his coaching record is better than probably 95% of the head coaches that have coached in the NFL since Tomlin was hired. Our Steeler-centric focus does two things: it makes us blind to the fact that his overall performance is not bad compared the majority of coaches out there, and it allows us to see the flaws that sports people covering 32 teams may miss. Most people view him based on his long-term record, and that long-term record is really good by NFL standards, even if it may not meet our standards as Steelers fans.

I think we can all agree the Steelers are the business model in the NFL. Even the Cowboys have followed suit with hanging on to Jason Garrett instead of playing musical coaches.

Having said the above the question needs asked...

Upper management of the Steelers prides itself on the drafting of players and letting players walk come free agency.

It's safe to say they are doing their part by putting the material in place to be successful.

There is a two way street to that devil's advocate you are playing.

On one hand you point out Tomlin's record compared to other coaches. Fine...but it also needs pointed out how good would another coach be in his position with Steelers brass putting the pieces in place to be successful... that's pretty damn good.

    An answer we don't know.

The ultimate question IMO is this...

How many wins over Tomlin's tenure is he directly responsible for...and how many
    losses is he responsible for.

Beating up on the Brown's, Bengals every year doesn't say too much.

The AFC over Tomlin's tenure has had a lot of bad teams.
    The perennial good teams,
    Pats, Raven's, Broncos on occasion...and......

    Well that's about it.

The AFC has had its share of some really bad teams outside the AFC north over Tomlin's years. Two in the North and a bunch outside.

I think given the quality of the Steelers organization a lot of those wins maby people could have pulled off. Including you and I.

The games that come down to direct decisions by the head coach... His record would be?

    Timeouts,
    Clock management,
    Personnel decisions....

    Penalties,
    Drama (distractions)

    Lack of control

The above would be a much better measuring stick IMO

    Is he the modern day
    Marty Shottenheimer?

    Bum Philips?

This, right here. I hate that organization. Dean Spanos is a blow hard douche bag. Tried to hold the city of San Diego hostage for a new stadium, glad their tax payers stood their ground on a referendum vote and said no. However, I've liked some of their teams over the years. I always liked Dan Fouts. Liked when Brees was there. And even Stan Humphries. But I f*ckin' loathe Rivers. He's a douche, like his owner. Cockier than hell for some punk that's never won anything, in fact, this whole version of the Chargers are cocky, like the Bengals were the last few years. They've been living on the edge all year, falling behind and coming back to win. That isn't a recipe for success against good, well coached football teams, especially in a single elimination tournament. They beat KC, so what? KC is suspect on defense, just not as suspect as the Steelers. Having said all that, I would root for them against Marsha and The Evil Empire, and it could be the Chargers year with some breaks.
