No I look at it all from an even prospective. Yes the team has needs at DE, RB, and CB. WR was/is in the same position as DE for example (a position you mentioned before)...we only have ONE proven guy at WR (AB) and DE (Cam)...the rest are unknowns right now at both positions (even though yes there is a 3rd round pick WR sitting there/etc...but he is still unknown). ALL of these positions are in need of depth and talent...and Moore took Cotchery's place as the vet guy at the WR position. You act like Moore is a scrub...he isn't...now if we say brought in some nobody Joe Schmo...then I could agree with you...but Moore is a proven commodity that is a solid signing for them. Now they can work towards those other positions. Obviously they don't want to have to restructure someone but they will if they have to (or maybe extend someone)...plus with the cap growing over the next couple years...a restructure (say of Timmons) will not hurt as bad. They will still sign a vet DE and RB and probably OLB (this has always been in the plan just like a vet WR).

Just because they signed a WR first instead of signing a DE/RB or whatever first...its not a big deal. Then again you and others would probably still complain if they signed a DE, RB and OLB THEN Moore for the WR spot.

SMH @ some people on here lately

When has back up RB been an early priority in free agency for the Steelers?

Apparently it's a pretty big priority to the Steelers since they've scheduled 3 free agent visits.

I would have preferred to keep Cotch but picking up Lance is a good move and needed. They can't sit on their hands while waiting to address other needs.

    i DON`T.
Nothing against him, but I don`t wanna see him succeed elsewhere, after we let him go.
That would just prove US wrong, for letting him go...
Actually, I read an article in my local paper, where Cotch said he had a hard time deciding what to do...
His quote was, (as a receiver)"If you`re gonna leave a qb like Ben, you better be sure, that your new qb is at least as good as what you left..."...
That`s not word for word, but pretty close...
He thinks Cam, can be as good as Ben, and his recent surgery, won`t hold him back.
He also mentioned that it would feel good to be part of a group that led to Carolina, "taking the next step"...
So, Yeah, I think the fact that he will get more passes thrown to him, played a big part in his decision, maybe more than the money...
Just speculation, but he sure didn`t say anything negative about "the `Burgh", just that he would have a better chance to be more of a "primary weapon", in Carolina, and had faith in Newton... No disrespect to Ben, or us, just thought he would be a bigger part of their offense, than ours... Makes sense to me...I wish him luck. No hostility, But I don`t necessarily hope he "proves you wrong" that he can be a #1...
Don`t really think he can, but if he does, I`m gonna wish it was here...
    GO STEELERS!

Yeah, what TTF said. He catches everything close to him. Holmes is 5'10 also right?

As TTF said, dropping a 2nd year UDFA or 6th round pick is not the end of the world. In fact, any time you keep one around for a couple years, that should be something of a surprise considering how many players that come in so late do squat. And we'd only have to say goodbye to one of them if we take two receivers this year, which we have the option of doing. I hope that they use their best judgement based on who is available, and not go with the, "Well this guy would be awesome, but then I'd possibly have to part ways with a so-so 6th rounder from last year" approach. That's not how you get better.

Signing Moore does not prevent us from addressing the DL. We needed a receiver, we needed a DE. We were going to have to get both. We got one. Now we can get the other, either in FA or the draft. I'd rather we get a WR we like than take a DE we don't like - the FA equivalent of reaching for need.

Moore is productive, no denying that. I just really see him as a system WR though. The contract details will be crucial. Did they pay him as a #2 WR or as a #4 WR. I am hoping for the latter.

yes he can play ok in cold weather... and yes he is a downgrade over cotch ..... and i bet it comes out the money is close... i can see where cotch was torn.. he lovedddddddddd the steelers but thought he would get more playing time in carolina ..... i dont think money was a huge factor in his decision but i bet when the moore contract numbers come out there wont be a huge difference there.. just think cotch took the playing time over staying with the team he loved.. and he went back to where he played his college ball ... i can see where he had a LOT to think about ...

He fits Haley's system, and we needed a veteran WR who can game. Good signing.

Cotch caught 10 TD's because he was the 4th option and typically uncovered, not because he has mad shake'n'bake skills. I'll miss him but the Moore signing erases any negative connection from losing Cotchery. Good luck in Carolina, and welcome to Pit, Lance!

Do you see anything about his size and how it could be a problem? As you know having read this thread it seems to be a topic of conversation. lol

like the signing as well as long as he stays healthy which you can never predict. He will fit in nicely. What he lacks in height he makes up for in hands and his ability when the balls in the air. He had a 40" vertical at some point. Don't know how much of that he still has.He is maybe a more athletic version of Welker and if used properly he can be as effective. Solid option after losing Cotchery.
