Do we know that? When I heard he was visiting other teams I asked if anyone had reported on whether or not Cotch had said anything because he gushed about the organization when he first came here and took a little less to sign back the second time and now he was taking visits with other teams. So something changed for him. Don't know if it was the front office, or wanting more money or wanting a legit shot at being a number one but something changed. Now as to your original question if given the choice between them? they really wanted him back but couldn't match the offer Carolina made which was, you are going to be the top guy. Can you say you really wanted him as a #2 receiver or a #1? In all reality he is a great slot guy but I don't think he can be that top guy, I hope he proves me wrong.

I can't see the Moore signing having a negative effect on the draft. At all. We lost a productive veteran, we replaced him (assumedly cheaply). Moore is 30, no?

The d-line needs to be addressed in FA as well. No doubt about that.

    Is Wes Welker a midget?

Yes, welker is a midget too. Either they aren't going to draft a WR this year or they're cutting one of the players they were supposedly high on and spent a year developing. I'm sure they're not going to carry 6 wide receivers.

    Who's next? Tyrion Lannister?

Just kidding ;) I need to see the numbers to know whether I like the signing, but he can be a help to our offense. We still need some red zone help though.

Brown, Wheaton, Moore, Rookie, Moye, and J. Brown on the PS. Why not? They could even draft two WRs and let J. Brown battle for his life. The investment in him is not as big as you make it out to be. It's not bigger than sacrificing a proven vet like Moore.

Welker, Moore's height... How many catches did Cotchery make last year (or ever) due to his height that these guys wouldn't have made? Seriously. Stop reading a list of heights and tell me the actual difference on the field. Moore can go up and get it. Cotchery is good and I'd have liked to keep him, but he's not Calvin Johnson out there.

I'm quite happy we signed Lance Moore
this guy is all hustle on the field
I remember seeing him in a saints game
after an interception he ran the db down
stole the ball and took it back for a TD

Again as I stated before my main issue isn't height. Having Moore won't make or break this team, but not having a defensive end will. As it stands we have Cam and that's it. No starter and no depth. We also have no depth at OLB. Signing Moore just prevents us from pursuing a DE. On a team with as many holes as the Steelers and no depth wasting picks hurts bad. If they're going to sign a WR because Brown can't cut it or draft two more this year and let Brown fight it out then they have wasted at least one pick. Which just sets us back further.

I don't know how high they supposedly are on them. You're right in that J. Brown, Moye, K. Moore etc all may not make the roster this year. All of those guys cost absolutely nothing to cut.

I hope everyone realizes that not every 6th round flyer or UDFA is going to be a star.

I'm fully aware of that. Brown obviously had or has some warts or he wouldn't have fallen to the 6th round. However, signing Moore is pointless. If we were a player or two away from contending then signing him might make sense, but we aren't that team. A startimg DE is a priority for this team. Depth at OLB is a priority. A 5'9" 31 y WR that runs a 4.5+ 40 isn't in any way, shape, form, or fashion.

I don't mind seeing them hold a guy on PS for a year to develop or even on the 53 and not be active, but they have a weird way of just keeping those guys there and never doing crap with them. Why even keep them if you really have no plan for using them? Make better decisions about who you're keeping and then have a plan for moving them up or cutting them.

It's a solid move they needed another veteran at WR, they will still probably draft a WR in rd1 or rd2.

Signing more doesnt prevent them from doing anything. They can still sign more players if they agree to terms...and thats the key...you can't force a player to sign. They can easily create more cap room if they want/need to. We exchanged Cotchery for Moore...we all already knew they'd have at least one vet WR on the team. You just need to take a step back and relax we're just 10 days into the new league year/FA/etc...relax. You make it sound like signing a vet WR is the end of the world.

If you want to look at this team with rose colored glasses feel free. But, no matter how you slice it this was a luxury move, not a priority. The other positions I mentioned along with 2 running backs, CB etc are priorities. You sign role players AKA the Lance Moores of the world when the priorities are taken care of. Restructuring more freaking players is the last thing the Steelers should be doing. It just digs the salary cap hole we've been in the last few years deeper. They need to be smart with the money they have. Again if we were a player or two away from contending and a role player like Moore puts them over the top then go for it, but we are not that team. We're missing 1/3 of the starting DL and backups. We're missing 2 running backs. We have no depth at OLB, but we just signed LANCE MOORE!

What's funny is that if the Steelers had not signed Lance Moore and gone with AB and 5 unknowns/unprovens and AB gets hurt at some point, then other contingent of Chicken Little critics would be blasting KC and MT for letting Sanders and Cotch walk and NOT signing Moore when they had the chance.

I'm sorta surprised about the negativity by some around this signing. Would I have liked to have kept Cotch? Of course but he got a contract from Carolina the Steelers were NEVER going to be able to match. Losing Cotch and Sanders left a pretty big hole on our team and we made a pretty good signing to help fix it. Yes it's just one of many holes we have right now, but it was still a hole that had to be addressed. Moore will be a solid wide out and I think he can fill the Cotch role well. Who knows maybe he can be an upgrade?

why does everyone think you have to be tall to play wr? I mean lynn swann was under 6'. welker, andre rison, willie gault, Charlie joyner, and lance alworth all come to mind as very good and some in hall of fame under 6'. my guess is the first td he catches everyone will be like did you see that. damn I am glad we signed him

Can't fault the guy for taking more money than the Steelers could afford to match, plus he gets to start, and he goes back to the state where he played college ball. Lets all hope the Steelers find a capable replacement, but I don't think the sky is falling, at least offensively.
