We gave him that much guarantees? Wow....

Oh well, he's on my roster anyway. Didn't realize how young we were at D-line to find 7 guys as it was before Keisel. He will help just in the meeting room.

Still think we give a lot of snaps to Tuitt if possible. Heyward - McLendon - Tuitt start. Keisel, Thomas, McCullers primary backups/rotation. A first year guy on the bench/special teams.

Thomas has looked alright from what I have seen from the first 2 preseason games, and he can play 2 positions. I see Keisel just being part of the rotation he shouldn't start IMO, on third downs go with Tuitt and Heyward.

I'm surprised we signed Keisel honestly, but maybe they were concerned with their inability to stop the run so far in preseason.

Cam Thomas has been alright, he is probably a better NT than a DE so maybe that is why the move was made.

Mcuellers is not ready just yet, although he has some special talent.

I was really hoping they would just let Tuitt start and jus take his lumps, but Steelers don't go for that.

Why give a 2 year contract to a 36 year old?

ESPN is reporting he is listed as the starter on the depth chart.

I think Thomas stays because we have no other backup NT. Mount McCullers is not ready yet.

    Mixed emotions for sure..

If they brought him in to spell Heyward and/or Tuitt I'm happy about the deal getting done.

If they brought him in to start for Tuitt, eh, not thrilled..

They didn't bring him in to start for Tuitt. They brought him in because the most senior member of the defensive front seven is Timmons and beyond that there is no one who has started that has more than two years experience. They needed a veteran out there and they got one. You guys were complaining about the 79 yard TD run in the first game well guess what that comes from young inexperienced players. Do you want the team to win games or do you want a trial by fire for many of these youngsters that wastes yet another year with Ben at the helm? Beyond Heyward everyone else has flashed but not shown a level of consistency. So ask yourself do you want to depend on just Ben and the offense to win or do you want a team effort where the young defense contributes with help of some savy vets.

He's 36, aren't we trying to get younger?

We'll see if he starts or not. Nobody knows for sure right now..

It reminds me of when we kept bringing Max Starks back..

He may begin the season as the starter but I believe its just to keep the seat warm until Tuitt is ready, hopefully by mid season the latest.

Again there is a lot of worry about things that aren't set in stone. Was Tuitt going to start? possibly Lebeau liked how he was progressing but apparently they feel they needed Keisel to add some veteran leadership to the line. I honest see this as affecting Thomas more than Tuitt. I think it will allow Tuitt to learn the ins and outs of the defense like Heyward has but it will free him up to do something that he has shown talent for namely get after the QB on obvious passing downs. On the other hand it will also allow for something more like what DL had when he had a dominate defensive front and talented LB's. Keisel and Heyward can anchor the line and free up space for these fast young LB's to flow to the ball. It is all gravy even the bubble guys Like Williams, Arnfelt, and Mauro will benefit from having an example to look at on what DL wants out of a DE

I love the signing. Arnie felt don't seem to be making the splash as he did this time last year. I think he and Williams will be good for sure, but aren't even at tuitt's level of excitement yet. Fangupo should be out. Are felt and Williams to PS keep Mauro and McMountain in hats with the rotation.

Can some one tell me why we have coaches?
Aren't coaches suppose to coach up these(young)players.Show them how things work? No maybe we just bring old players back, to show them how to do there job? C'mon back Silverback we need you to show JJ how to play.

you have to wonder about bringing about the beard. He is 36 and slowing down.. Smart veteran but I think it comes at the cost of allowing our youth to learn and grow. If he takes alot of snaps its not going to work
