As of now there are two HOF players from the 2005 team, with the potential for three more, definitely one more.
THis 2023 Roster could potentially have 3 HOF guys in Heyward, Watt and Fitzpatrick. Who knows what the younger players will turn into.

    I can't compare yet.
    1. I haven't seen them play together yet.
    2. You've penciled people into spots we don't even know if they will be at yet, or even starting there yet.

You don’t even know who will be on the 53 man roster. You can guess, but it’s just a guess. We could make it through training camp, preseason games, and determine all of the rookies need a year on the bench. we could lose 4/5 of our projected starting line. Pickett, Harris, and muth could all go down.

My immediate reaction to this is that that 2005 team was A TEAM. They showed it so many times over.

Most of these guys don’t even know each other. Well about half.

Not even just the core group, but most of those squads in 2005 - 2008 really felt like a cohesive unit on a mission. They loved their coaches too.

This team has some of these qualities, but they aren’t reverberating it like those dudes. Felt like the whole NFL felt it too. The Baltimore games and even the Bungles games seemed to help mold that.

Im not tryin to be a Debbie Downer, but this team needs a big time bonding moment(s) for me to start believing in any similarities. Those guys seemed to feel genuine pride to be Steelers. That must happen again. Here’s to hoping.

I truly appreciate the optimism though…

This is just a strange comparison to me. We got like 4 new players playing 3 different positions (ILB/SS). Chemistry is going to be a big deal down the middle of our defense with Kazee and Fitz being the only two returning players in the MOF. And in the secondary alone we could have three new starters at CB with only Maulet, Witherspoon and Wallace being the only ones with experience in this defense. This pass defense is going to take a few games to acquire the chemistry needed to win games and become dominant. We're talking about a defense that's looking to have roughly 5 new starters. The pieces are definitely there to be very good, perhaps great. But these pieces may not come together the way we want it to. Only time will tell. Having only 3 preseason games, and the starters getting barely any reps in those games doesn't help matters when it comes to chemistry.

Pretty much sums it up. I've read the flaws, the good, blah blah. I expect nothing from a 7th rounder, he has the measurables now can he be coached and adjust his game to at least a serviceable pro level. If so we win, if we get more we got a steal.

The 2005 team had a much better coaching staff and they were 15-1 the year before.....

They were still 11-5...The AFC were loaded in the mid 2000s period
