I believe the Steeler organization must share the blame for Scobee's missed field goals. Home field advantage can help us if we force teams to kick to the open end of the stadium instead of us. Let them deal with the weather conditions. Before Josh Scobee attempted to place the long kicks, I had a gut feeling that the chances of him making them was not good. Why?? Because of the windy conditions combined with the bad corner of the stadium (the open end) combined with the distance. It's not rocket science. Why in Gods name do the Steelers always put themselves in the position to kick in the direction of the open end-zone in 4th quarters?? ...when they know how difficult it is oppose to the closed end of the stadium. If your a smart organization, wouldn't you make the opposing team kick from that direction?? Since Heinz Field opened, the Steelers have a tradition of facing the open end of the stadium in 4th quarters. I understand that in the overtime period last night, the Ravens had the option to choose the direction, but it do not excuse the Steelers choice of direction at the start of the game. As a die-hard Steeler fan, I beg someone in media with influence in Pittsburgh to at the very least ask why the organization always choose to face the open end of the field in 4th quarters...

There are many areas in which the OrgIQ is lacking.

ravens won coin toss and selected which direction to kick

It's not fully closed and even in TRS the wind came in and did funky things, because it was a doughnut. There were reports that the wind wasn't bad, but I heard the announcers say the readings didn't match what they were seeing in warm-ups!

I'd argue that it's probably harder for the home kicker, because you know what it does and you're trying to adjust to the effects based on what you know rather than just doing your set approach and hitting the ball true.

closing in that end has changed what it used to be. it had to, so i'm sure even our kickers haven't seen a lot of how it may effect the kicks yet in windy colder weather. that's why i said this may be a good day to try these kickers out. windy, rainy and colder in the burgh friday and sat..

Don't put it back in your pocket or else it becomes just another coin. Which it is.

Come on people, he missed a 42 and a 49 yarder, any NFL kicker should be able to kick those distances routinely, ive seen high school kickers make longer ones than that, lets face it the jags punked tomlin with an over the hill kicker, who just might have made that 50 yarder to win the game if given the chance....

Often when I watch sideline shots of Tomlin I wonder out of curiousity if he even realizes how many time outs he has or does not have and when the best time of the game is to use them. I have seen him more than once take a timeout stopping the clock which benefitted the other team and have seen more than my fair share of times he should have used the T.O. but actually didn't. On a scale of 1-10 I would give his clock management skills a 4 at best.

Every team in the league knows you don't want to be kicking into the open end of the field in Pitt.
Our division rivals certainly showed they knew on Thursday night.
Please tell me our head coach is aware of it too.

    Please...

What's the alternative? Give them the ball first in overtime?

He's quite aware of the problems with the what used to be the open end of the stadium. He's also aware of having the best wr and rb in the nfl and if they score a td first the game is over.

Yes, they only moved the ball on short fields given to them and then you would have had the choice of direction. New overtime rules you get the ball if they try a FG on the first possession...

If they score a TD the game is over. No way you give up the first possession in OT.
