I just read that CBS is coming out with a new Star Trek show in January!! I can't wait! I'm sure BFT feels the same way!

This could be good, or it could suck. Rumor has it that they plan to have it as an anthology with different casts each season. That would be cool.

This is supposedly coming out on CBS's "NetFlix" like channel. I don't have high hopes for a long run.

Especially if they pull the anthology thing out for it. Very few shows can pull it off because people want to get invested in "Characters", not figuring it out every "new" season.

You can get away with a bad season or stretch of writing for a few episodes if people know they can skip it and come right back to familiar characters. A bad season/story will kill an anthology like True Detective. The second season was really a letdown after that first season.

For some reason, after first seeing the picture, I read that as "with different cats each season."

Fargo RULES as an anthology series. It's not on a major network though. Major network shows don't ever seem to last if they have even a shred of complexity to them. Hence the reason Hannibal didn't get to finish. Man I wish I hadn't said that because I still get mad just thinking about it. LOL!

Have to disagree with Lizard. Season 2 of True Detective didn't ruin anything for me, I read that there will be a season 3 and can't wait for it.

If one season disappoints, you can just wipe your hands of it and look forward to the next season with new characters and plots.

They better have James T. Kirk! Without him, Eddie Murphy doesn't have a joke!

The last 10 years or so of Star Trek has been rather underwhelming. This going to CBS doesn't exactly instill much faith or confidence in me either.

    But we'll see.

As long as he has himself he will always have a joke.

Yeah, but I really dislike just saying, "Maybe next season will capture my interest"

First season was weird, but it worked and the cast worked. Second season felt like the casting was off and they were trying to replicate the first season. I'll check out the third, but at that point you're really only giving something 2-3 episodes to get into it.

With something like Star Trek, I doubt you'd be able to generate enough difference between the crew of a starship to make something be interesting as you rehash the "get to know them" stuff through multiple seasons, unless you find a way to tie characters together across the seasons.
