It's no issue. The key word is 'reportedly' which has a truth value of not much.
A lot of teams are set up at QB, most going with youth.
The chips are not so much in his favor, though there are still a couple teams in desperate waters that will have to decide.

The real issue is that the Steelers are not a Super Bowl contender yet. They would have to add Stafford and WR, some Defense, and offensive line to compliment such an addition. Too many holes to come here.

    Desperate Teams other than us.
Jets - Yuk. What QB would ever want to go there.
Browns - Could be a good situation. (2nd pick)
Titans - Could be a good situation. (1st pick)
Raiders - One of those crazy teams, who knows?
Giants - They just suck (3rd pick)
Saints - Could be a good spot.

Would one of those top 3 draft pick teams trade? The Browns aren't afraid to, and crazy enough to do so. But then cap space is an issue.

The Rams seem like a very good option for Stafford.

What QB would want to go to the Steelers?

Until Popcorn retires... or he religuishes Arians-like power to Arthur Smith, Steelers are terrible option for QB and offense.

Of the teams listed, and to my surprise, Pittsburgh is not a bad destination.
I think this 'total control by gripping the throat' is a little exaggerated, a bit dramatic.
Bill Belichick was a control freak but even his staff, hand-picked and loyal, had leeway.
I know Parcels was tough but he did trust his staff.
I've just never heard a former coach here say anything like "That damn Tomlin controlled everything I did."
He is the Head Coach though, so his staff does report to him.

Now before we start tossing wild accusations with words like "Tomlin apologist"
I'm not 100% on Tomlin side.
What I ding him on is failure to adapt to anything new. He's running his team on a 30-year-old model.
He needs to freshen up his staff and find new innovations and players to make that happen.
I can't think of any reason why we have to sit in the stands and watch Teryl Austin's lack-luster defense unable to get any pressure on the QB or stop a run consistently.
He should have hired Saleem before he got out the door at the Jet's facility.

    Looking at Smith:
    - He's light years ahead of Matt Canada. That's not saying a lot since my cat knows more about offense than Canada did.
    - Smith is a Gibbs product. He likes the old school offense. Play-Action with a mobile QB, though he has not tapped into any of talent.
    - Smith's best success was with a power run game (Henry) and a play-action QB.

Stafford is by far the best option we could go with short term but his asking price is too high for a team that has this many holes and ****ty coaching.

Took a while to set in, didn't realize I had done that.... that's a good comeback. I have to admit, Tomlin at the finger tips seems to want to be Tomlinson... why, I don't know. Age? Well, that's the reason I am retired... maybe 'Popcorn' works better.

If he wanted to play out his current contract and the asking price was limited, 3rd or even 4th, then by all means go for it, but we know that is not happening. Ben at the near end of his career had one of his best (if not best) years statistically, he got a fat extension. He declined, had an injury, covid and reduction in CAP...we paid for it. The reduction probably won't happen again, but apparently want paid big, the Rams want a high pick, and we have a holes all over. We are going to have to put money into our O, we have more CAP space than we have had in ages, but don't repeat past mistakes.

I can't believe there are actually posters willing to give Cousins a nod at QB. The guy is cooked with a capital "C". No arm left. Can't move his lower body.

How have the standards sunk so low?

When players under team control are given approval to talk to other teams regarding a trade is it all about the contract? Then the player goes back to the team and the team negotiates the trade?

That and the fact players routinely say how much they would love to play for Tomlin.

At times, or, it was reported on Dan Patrick (and other shows) that the Raiders and Giants have met with Stafford (or agent) and the offer was in the area of 90 to 100 million guaranteed on a 2 year deal. It was then stated Stafford would meet with the Rams today. The Rams could make their own counter offer to get him to stay, negotiate with both teams to see which offers a better deal in assets, or if they want just tell him to suck it up and play out his current contract. The last line is not going to happen, they hold their cards, he holds his own, they could make a trade with a team or offer he does not like and just refuse to report, retire, or just hold out.

Whne the Rams opened this window it was either they felt there would be lowball offers and he would be happy to take a new lower deal with them, or they already have a plan to move on from him.

Like I said, the Steelers did a good job selling a story and quite a few folks here were suckered into believing it
