Was this an actual song choice, or a statement??

Yes in a way, but they had already developed themselves as a band ,and their sound before that. They were just going through the changes of the time. All real musicians do this, only IMO, limited ones, or stubborn ones stay in a genre without venturing out. As a human your likes, and dislikes change, and therefore if You are being true to yourself as a musician , so must your music. That's why I never got the hate of Metallica as they changed from album to album. If they were listening to different music that they enjoyed, it would be impossible for it not to influence a different feel from them. IMO them trying to be , look at me we are only a heavy band like we were in the 80s, now is the real fake part of their music. You can't grow , and experience more things, more life, and more music, and it not effect what you play, and how you look at things, and therefore write, unless you are purposely trying to sound , stay a certain way, and be a certain way, and then that's not real. I get it. Linda Ronstadt doing country or Mariachi. Beyonce doing country, Rex Harrison doing pop, but the Stones doing DISCO???:puking2:Even worse, Led Zeppelin doing a song with a disco whistle!

You just have a hate for disco, but if You were a musician, and you lived in that time, it would have been impossible for it not to have been an at least a small influence, unless you forced it not to be.

Don’t get how you say Nickleback rode the coattails of others
    Not my fav band
But no way I would say they suck
I know Nickleback got flack for running their mouths, lead singer mostly
But hey we all got different opinions
This is what makes the world great
    Plus
    They are from Canada
    Damn you South Park

I do have a hatred for disco! Like you have a hatred for rap (even Blondie doing it?) I am not a musician though, I played percussion from 4th-9th grades, I always considered what the Stones and Zeppelin did then kind of a sell out!

See You are going by what everyone else says. I don't know anything about what you say he said.
I heard them one time, and said copies, of copies.
Have You ever made a VHS copy of a copy of a VHS movie before??? That's nickel back. I could point out a direct copy of something that not has been done before, but done a million times before. They are the same as GoD smack, or 5 finger death punch. They have no original thoughts of their own.

I figured you did . They are all the same band in different genres. It's cool, those bands were directed by smart labels companies for just that exact purpose. They are the cookie cutter mold of each genre of that time.

Selling out would actually be to hear, and experience new things in life, and saying, I will only write, and play what I've already done, and purposefully not growing. Example: Do You think J. Page was better, and more understanding of the guitar when he first formed a band , or many many years later after playing, and experiencing more music?? Then why should he stay to the exact same way of playing?? Should he dumb himself for the audience, or play , and write as he feels at the time.

You don't think adding the disco whistle to Fool in the Rain was dumbing the song down to the audience? That was a great song and didn't need to, IMO, pander to what was popular at the time.

A lot of bands imitate or as you would say pander to what is popular
Otherwise they would be Fools in the Rain
Zep my favorite all time band!
    They kinda suck live tho
    Robert Plant = studio voice

Does Aerosmith suck for being influenced by the Blues? And than imitating that sound? Esp in the early years
Guess you would call them a sellout in the later years
Playing tunes that were popular in the here and now

    Or
    Every band sucks other than
    Nirvana
Coz Nirvana led the way for
    Pearl Jam
    Soundgarden
    Alice in Chains
    STP
    Totally disagree

I understand that sentiment. There are a ton of great songs out there i would be okay with never hearing again. Unfortunately, that’s the nature of corporate radio. They pay to play a few songs and we rarely get to hear deep cuts. Thats one of the things i like about pandora. You create a station of bands/music you like and also get to hear music thats similar or bands that influenced the artists you like.

Elvis influenced by the blues also
    Sound was very familiar
    To the old black bluesman
Elvis raised it a notch by swiveling his hips
