I think the news of Aerosmith officially retiring due to Steven Tyler's voice just can't do it anymore is a major event in rock history. And it is getting a sadly very under-whelming reaction by the musical world.

I lost count of how many times I have seen them live. I have traveled to catch them when they were playing relatively nearby. I saw Guns and Roses open for them at Nashville's Starwood Amphitheater in 1987/88. I saw them in Memphis at 3 different venues. I traveled to Dallas, Little Rock, Louisville, and St. Louis.

One of the absolute greatest live rock acts ever. And they still have all original members since 1970. I feel like this is Earth-shattering news, but in this world of what have you done for me lately, this news has been basically given back page attention.

    Rant over.

I've told this story on here before but here goes. 1973 Hawaii. My roommate was from Boston. Told me about this College band called Aerosmith. He had the first album. We went down to the local rock station. (only one at the time on Oahu) Bang on door and asked guy to play "Dream On". After almost beating the crap out of us he took album off us and played it. "Dream On" was #1 request the following day. Aerosmith had zero idea Hawaii knew them. They came as the opening band for The Guess Who. Most people were there for Aerosmith. After about 2-3 songs Tyler stopped and asked, "how the F do you guys know about us". Top 5 favorite concert of all time for me. Mainly my roommate but we got Aerosmith famous in Hawaii.

Aye, I enjoy a good show, but to be honest they were really bad live in the 70's
They had a few stand ins through the years.

    Done with Mirrors perfect title
    UGH

RUNDMC brought them back to life and they had a tour sponsored by Bud Lite but were dry at the time and i believe that is when i could GAF about the band.

Last year we won a Grammy and this year we have a half a grammy left

70's? Not the two shows I saw in Hawaii. 74-75. IMO first 3 albums were Aerosmith prime. After that they had some great hits but not like first 3 albums.

Since I didn't turn 10 until 1979 I missed all of those shows. I did buy the albums(yes, actual albums) later though. The first time I saw them live was most likely either Done with Mirrors or Permanent Vacation. Everybody has different taste, I was impressed and wanted to see and hear more.

BTW, is that Munich, Germany? We were in Germany around the same time. And we were in Norfolk around same time.

My wife and I were going to go see this tour in Cincinnati, but now that's obviously not happening. I've never seen them live, so I was looking forward to it.

That's a bummer. I only ever saw them when they were young and stoned off their ass. I was close but not as close as a couple guys I knew and they passed a joint to Whitford. They say he hit it but I didn't see it.

BTW, I have not been to a big rock concert in decades, do they still smoke the place out or are those days long gone?

A fair amount but nothing like the the late 60's/70's IMO. Everyone's sipping Cosmos and Meritage wines from the gitchy bars.

PS: I'm talking the LA scene like the Greek Theater and Hollywood Bowl where limos deliver half the audience.

The shows I've seen in the last few years are radiohead, Muse, Megadeth (twice) and Styper.

There might have been a mild smell of pot or vape at a couple of those shows, but nothing like the concerts I saw in the 80s.
