Over the weekend it dawned on me we had made it over 100 pages without a single post of Aerosmith. That my friend is a freaking travesty

I just discovered that at some point, Anthrax re-recorded a bunch of Joey songs with John Bush and released it as a greatest hits, but all newly recorded. While I like the Bush stuff fine from the actual studio albums they did with him, these songs just don't sound right at all to me with John instead of Joey.

Yes it was. I saw so many great shows in that place. A friend was a radio dj and had her wedding at hammerjack’s. It was very strange seeing a bride walk down the aisle through this cloud of stale beer, vomit, and cigarettes

I thought all everyone knew this. I have this.
They did a poll on songs to pick the ones re-record. I actually like both. A few of the songs are in different keys than the originals. This song is about the Stand by S. King.
This is My favorite from that redone album. Although the production is not even close to the original.

I had a hard time getting into the John Bush stuff. It was just too much of a change from the Anthrax that I had known for so many years. Completely different vocal style, different guitar tone, less thrashy, and more serious. It didn't feel like Anthrax to me any more. But I listened to the first couple and they grew on me, but they still don't feel like Anthrax albums to me.

But now that Joey is back with them, there are some really good tracks on the last 2 albums. This one is pretty great, and will sound familiar, even if you've never heard it before (you'll see what I mean when you listen to it if you haven't heard it yet).

See I like the old Anthrax with Joey, and the stuff after with John, but I hate the new stuff with Joey. I don't like rehashing. IMO true musicians should always be getting better, and there should be no way You sound like what You used to sound like. JMO.
I mean let's use Metallica for example . Kill em all didn't sound nothing like Ride the Lightning, and Master of Puppets didn't sound anything like And Justice, but now what they write sounds like everything from the 1st 3 albums.....because they are doing it on purpose...instead of growing like they were. Nothing they write now sound actually new....You can pick the Riffs from the old songs, and that seems exactly like what Anthrax is doing now.....It why I have always hated AC/DC....listen to one album....You've heard them all. LoL. JMO

Mindcrime is one of my favorite albums. Early Queensryche, '80s thru about '94 was great; Geoff Tate was an all-time great metal voice. They lost some of their edge after Empire in 1990, but still popped an occasional good track. Ugly divorce in the 2010s.

Seen them , and met them when they opened for Metallica in 1988, or 89 . I don't remember which.

I get this, and one of my favorite bands, radiohead, is a perfect example. They really explored their sound with each new release, and ended up going from a typical 5 piece band into an electronic/sound effect driven group. But somehow, they still manage to sound like radiohead no matter how different they get.

With Anthrax, it just sounded like a different band altogether to me. I want them to explore new musical areas, but I still wanted them to sound like the same band growing/exploring, not a different band entirely. I liked them b/c of how they sounded, and for me, they got far enough from that sound that it no longer sounded like what I liked about them.

Mindcrime was released in '88. I think they started headlining soon after. Where they doing that or The Warning/Rage for Order material?

Tate always sounded good live as well.
