A few people on here expected the Steelers to win every game 30-0. Why? This is where I shake my head. The Steelers "soft pillow defense" played really bad pathetic teams with offensive issues and still couldn't come up with sacks, int, or fumble recoverys. They would allow these teams to capture long time of possession drives throughout the year.

Most of you expected our offense to put up 20 - 30 points easlily against teams like Cleveland, KC, seattle, Jacksonville, Sf , etc. What you don't understand is why are these teams in the top 10 in the NFL for allowing points? Examples

Cleveland ranked 5th overall in points allowed
Cincinnati ranked 9th overall in points allowed
Baltimore ranked 3rd overall in points allowed
Houston ranked 4th in points allowed
San Fran ranked 2nd in points allowed
Jacksonville ranked 12th in points allowed
Tennesseee ranked 8th in points allowed
Kansas City ranked 11th in points allowed
Seattle ranked 7th in points allowed

That indicated that these teams would very seldom get blown out. Most of these teams at the top including St.Louis, Arizona, Denver rank at the bottom of the offensive category stats. But, for some reason everybody is quick to praise our defense because of our 12-5 record. It's so easy to point fingers at the offense, but, it's just as easy to point fingers at the defense. The season was lost because of the defense gave up an 80 yard slant pass and not because of an INT or fumble recovery by our offense. Our Offense cameback and played strong when it counted and our defense couldn't stand tall. Blah, blah, blah, were were nearing field goal range in the final minute and we went backwards, at that point I was just happy we were tied and headed into overtime. Until bang one blink of an eye the game was over and our defense was on the field, against one of the worst offenses in the NFL.

There are factions on this board who support the defense and blame the offense and vice versa. Truth is, it's a team sport. Both sides of the ball could have done more to win that game but there will always be fans who make excuses for the side of the ball they like, "if our offense would stop going 3 and out our D wouldn't be gassed" " "if our D could just get off the field on 3rd down" :beathorse:

I give total blame to both offense and defense.

Arians offensive game plan sucks. Even though you stated statistical data the supports its hard to score against those defenses, it's not just actually scoring against these teams it's how we try to score against these teams.

How come it looks so easy for Brees, Rogers, Brady to score against the same teams. It could be talent at the skill positions but also I believe its the plays called against these defenses.

Look at our play calling in the red zone. People use the "pick play" on our corners with success...why can't we do that?...
Why throw a slant to Wallace when he never uses his hands to catch the ball?
Why continue to run the same running play to the right with a guard pulling? that's what led to Mendy fumble in the superbowl..
Every time we motion to the side with already three receivers on that side we throw the bubble screen...if i can see that i know people you do that for a living can see it...

    I'm just saying
Rogers had his worst game in KC, Brees struggled against Jacksonville. Pittsburgh beat Brady. So, go look at the strength of DEF opponents and you'll see Pittsburgh and Baltimore had it bad on an offense vs, defense stand point.

Some people complain about offensive production so they can scream about firing BA.

Looking at those team's final stats is skewed because it includes the Steelers' games. For instance, you know why Cleveland finished 5th in scoring defense? because they shut down the Steelers twice.

No, a better measurement is the one I posted previously in another thread. Notice how the Steelers performed vs. how their opponents other opponents performed.

The following numbers are the Steelers' opponents PA vs their other 14 or 15 opponents, compared to the Steelers' points against that opponent:

    Tennessee: 18.6/Steelers: 38 (+19.4)
    Arizona: 21.1/Steelers: 32 (+10.9)
    Cincinnati: 18.9 / Steelers: 29.5 (+ 10.6)
    Seattle: 19.4 / Steelers: 24 (+4.6)
    New England: 21.1 / Steelers: 25 (+3.9)
    St. Louis: 25.3 / Steelers: 27 (+2.7)

    Baltimore: 17.1 / Steelers: 13.5 (-3.6)
    Jacksonville: 20.8 / Steelers: 17 (-3.8)
    Indianapolis 27.1 / Steelers: 23 (-4.1)
    Cleveland: 20.7 / Steelers: 13.5 (-7.2)
    Houston: 17.9 / Steelers: 10 (-7.9)
    KC: 21.7 / Steelers: 13 (-8.7)
    San Fran: 15.1 / Steelers: 3 (-12.1)

Bottom line is, a good offense would outperform most other offenses. The Steelers do not have a good offense.

When they complain about offensive production, it is a direct indictment on the QB. The QB has more control over an offense for good or bad then any other player. Coaching success is tied directly to how well players perform on the field.
