Okay, I respect your opinion that Cook won’t start… but bro, the man played as well as any tackle we’ve had in 2025. I could hit you with some independent sources, but I can already tell your mind’s made up. You’ve got that ‘Cook’s not starting and you can’t convince me otherwise’ face locked in .

You do know that Tampa was the first team to sign Cook and was on their practice squad. I guess their coaches didn't recognize his greatness either.

You need to quit telling people to answer your questions when you do not

Run along until you get some integrity

I like what I saw in Cook but we wouldn’t have drafted an OT in the first if we were okay with Cook starting.

It’s good to know we have some depth at the position if someone goes down.

Dylan Cook and the Tampa Bay Coaches
Dylan Cook’s time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022 was marked by strong support from his offensive line coaches, despite him going undrafted and not making the final 53-man roster.

After signing as an undrafted free agent, Cook spent most of the season on the Buccaneers’ practice squad, where he impressed his position coaches. In a 2023 interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Cook revealed that both of his offensive line coaches were “pretty distraught” when they had to let him go at the final roster cuts. They told him it was “above them” to make the team, meaning they felt he was performing well enough to warrant a spot Steelers Depot.

Cook said it was “beyond me” to understand why he didn’t make the roster, but he acknowledged the coaches’ disappointment. He added that since joining the Steelers, he’s moved on from that situation, focusing on his current role and development Steelers Depot.

This experience in Tampa, where he was valued by his coaches even before making the roster, likely contributed to his persistence when the Steelers signed him in 2023. Cook has credited his ability to stay consistent and show up every day as key to earning a spot on the team Sports Illustrated.

I liked what I saw from Cook at the end of last season. I’m glad he’s on the roster this season. However, I didn’t see enough for him to be “Plan A” at LT. We have options. I’m not sure any of those options are ready to be a solid starting LT in 2026, but hope springs eternal.

True. Back in 2022, Cook was still transitioning from quarterback and came from a small college football program very similar to how Big Al Villanueva switched from wide receiver to offensive tackle and also played at a school that rarely produces NFL talent.I'm not saying Tampa "missed" on him as an undrafted rookie free agent. The circumstances just weren't ideal for immediate success. A major positional switch plus coming from a small program meant his development was always going to take longer. Dealing with the Covid in those years hindered his development at Tackle as well. He did not start a lot of games in college at tackle either. He simply wasn't ready yet. But he is ready now.

They had Wirfs and D. Smith at tackle. And they drafted Goedeke early in 2022. Cook wasn't going to crack that lineup.

I'm seeing similarities to his situation in PIT.

Though Cook played well last season. Will have to wait and see this year. Cook will be a restricted free agent in 2027. If we want we could put a second round tender which would be something like 6.3 million or 1 first round tender 8.7 million.

i agree. he has looked very good at several spots the last couple of years in preseason. so he is versatile. playing QB as well he must have a little upstairs. you don't just get rid of good linemen. there will be a need during the season at some point and if he wins the right tackle spot so be it. if fautanu goes down for a game or two then we have a guy that can step in. i like this line and it's depth for a change. many guys that could start and won't hurt you.

This thread is exactly why people get the pitchforks and torches out over any and every loss. Wild over-estimation of the roster and the team's capabilities.

Dylan Cook is a PS or back-up level player until he puts in a full slate of games that demonstrates otherwise. Maybe put a hold on the contract extension and the tailoring for the mustard colored jacket?
