I think we have found the replacement refs. They showed up at my son's high school football game in Knoxville last night. Possibly the worst officiated game I have ever seen. It is sad when the boys give everything and then have to deal with crappy officiating.

Treat it as a life lesson for them. "You see, son, that person who told you life was fair... they lied." :aikido:

Two mistakes that I noticed today. OPI in the GB/NO game that wasn't called. The announcers merely said "Coleston got away with one there." Had that been the replacement refs the would have showed the replay a dozen time repeatedly pointing it out.

Also the DET/MIN game. Next to last play of the game DET player is hit and forced OB by the defender and they stopped the clock. BIG mistake as when a player is forced out the clock should continue to run. Both Leslie Frasier and the DB were screaming about it but not a PEEP from the announcers.

I think the replacements were in a no win situation as everyone was looking for every missed call and when they happened they harped on them over and over again making things appear worse than they we're.

Horse ****. Yes they were in a no win situation but that doesn't change the fact that they sucked. And a major difference is that there is no one else to scream for to bring in and do a better job. The refs we have now are the best at what they do, why should we sit here and be satisfied with hack officials when better ones were sitting at home waiting to do their jobs again. And If anyone sits here ans say's that the replacements did as good a job as the real refs, well, you need an eye doctor and a shrink. The real refs aren't perfect, we know that, but they are better then the replacements.

Im not saying the replacements were perfect. Im not saying that they were better than the regulars.

But I do think that because of the situation all eyes and all cameras were on them. EVERY bad or missed call was noted, commented on repeatedly, shown over and over again, and therefore magnified X 100. Anything short of being better than the regular refs was going to be seen as being way worse. Every missed hold, every missed PI, every missed anything was pointed out. Repeatedly. Do you not remember how Dan Fouts went on and on for 10 minutes about the illegal pick last week?

The point is that even the regular refs 'suck' to a certain degree (they miss calls and screw things up too..Ed Hoculi call your office), but because they are the regulars not much is made of it when they do. They definitely dont suck quite as much as the replacements, but I truly believe that if the replacements would have had more time they would have improved to pretty close to the job that the regular guys do.

Had Detroit completed a Hail Mary on their last play and gone on to win the game, the regular refs would have cost Minnesota the game by stopping the clock when they obviously shouldn't have. And NOTHING would have been mentioned. Nothing was mentioned when it happened. I guarantee you that had they been replacements, the announcers and media would have been all over it.

I agree with all that except about nothing being said if the refs cost Minnesota the game. Complaining about the officials is always part of talk radio and especially coming so close on the heels of the replacements costing a team a game. But, like I said, there's no where else to go after the real refs, that's all we have, and overall they are better. And I'm sure the replacements could get better but why should us fans suffer for it while they learn? I don't know about you but I really had trouble watching games, in fact last Sunday I actually turned the tv off (not the Steeler game) one of my biggest gripes was the disruption of the games. Plus, they were botching some really text book stuff, placement of the ball, clock issues, time outs, it was just happening in such abundance that it wasn't acceptable. I know the real refs botched the clock on the Detroit game but they don't generally screw up on the level the replacements were.
