Yeah but he doesn't really need breakaway speed when he has basically just physically assaulted the whole defense by the time they're behind him. LOL!

He had a nice 2013 season. Other than that he's been average at best. He doesn't consistently get double digit tackles. 5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 3 interceptions in his career. Heck I think Harrison has done that in one game.
If it wasn't for his thuggish antics nobody would even know who he is.

We have a great one two punch. What's the problem. We all know that Bell is a phenom but DWill is a beast in his own right

Bell had 18 carries against the chiefs for 144 yards, thats hardly running his wheels off, he had 5 receptions, thats a pretty light work load in total for him, he should get about 25 carries a game on average to keep him happy.............

You could say that because of the tired muscles, it leads to tired ligaments. Or due to previous injuries to other parts of the body, leading to overcompensation.

I'd like to see a study done on types of injuries versus snap count or previous injuries.

I didn't say he got his wheels ran off last Sunday. And they shared the load with Williams. Which is the point. Keep sharing the load and keeping the load light. Tomlin's philosophy has been to run the wheels off his feature back.

What fun is it to have a Ferrari if you leave it parked in the garage?

Bell is a savage beast. Play the man. I hate RBBC...it breaks up the momentum for RBs. Y'all remember how much stronger The Bus got as the game got deep into the second half? That wouldn't happen if you took his snaps away.

Bell is still learning the game. He's missed a ton of time. He needs those snaps.

Plus, the FO needs to see: 1) If he can hold up without unlucky injuries 2) how this kid is gonna ball for the rest of the season. Why? Contract discussions loom and the FO needs to see if he's worth paying. FWIW, I want him in Pittsburgh for a long time...as long as he can remain responsible and mature.

The one injury when the defender slammed into his knee would have happened if he was rested for 5 years.

I'd have to watch the Burfict one again but the way that knee got caught up behind him, I think that injury occurs as well, regardless.

I was just wondering about those types of injuries and compensating for other injured limbs. That first one ok, I get it, but that second one? maybe if he didn't already have an injury to that leg, he avoids a major injury, maybe not.

My concern is that we over-use Bell and, because of that and the longer, more physical NFL season, he wears down and gets injured. For that reason, I like giving DWill some snaps/touches.

    What he said.

Right now Bell is already down to a college season.

I think we have become a down field attacking passing team so there are few carries to share. But I like it when both are on the field and Bell is split out. Real trouble for any defense to know what is coming.

This. Having both start in the backfield and then Bell splitting out is a great strategy.

I'll preface this with the fact that I really love watching Bell do his thing but I'd be surprised if Bell gets another contract with the Steelers this offseason. If he has a good season and stays healthy, I'd franchise him. His injury and suspension history don't warrant a long term contract. Not too mention the short shelf life of running backs in general make giving him a ton of money a bad idea.

With Bell's skill set he's hardly you're typical RB. He'll get another contract with the Steelers or at least a fair offer.
The Steelers know what they're doing.
Plus "shelf life of RB's" see DWill.

When the game was well in hand in the fourth quarter why was Bell still in there? For that matter Ben too? Why not let Deangelo finish the game? Do those plays insist on staying in or something? Why risk a freak injury to Ben?
Some say if its going to happen its going to happen but isn't it about playing the odds? If they are not in there they can't get hurt. Wonder what the thinking is on this by the coaches?

Yup. With 2 suspensions on his resume, he's actually making it easier for the Steelers to re-sign him if they want. Which I believe they do and will.

Although, the 2 suspensions would not have stopped Al Davis for overpaying to get him.
