I have seen a few writers talk about it. would give them some form of compensation if Bell leaves.

If I were going to be upset about the inequities in pay in our society I would not start with NFL players. And the players aren't scamming the public. The NFL owners are the ones willing to pay the money because they are the ones raking in the big money. Bell wants to get everything he can. I can't fault him for that. It isn't how I would play it but I am not him. He's using the system to his own ends, just like the teams always do.

I'm sick of him. Would like to see us rescind the tag and throw everything of his in the parking lot

Call me a dreamer, idealist or just plain dumb but I'd take the league minimum to wear that uniform and do everything I could to help build a winning team if I was in his position. That life lasts the barest fraction of time. Do what it takes to etch your name on that championship trophy plenty of time later for bagging groceries or putting crap in a box.

Put me in the “sick of bell” camp.

I really don’t get what’s so offensive to him that he got franchised twice..... as Jares noted... two years of franchise is breaking the bank of most people... set for life no matter what happens. I don’t understand the “need a long term deal”..... once you get past XX million, it’s really just absurd.

And I don’t think the argument by terribleOwl to point to the owners. Owners employ thousands of workers, and support the local economy for years..... players only care a out one person and that’s it, and most disappear from the community upon retirement.

I get where you are coming from. The evil boss using his poor employees is a battle that has been going on for a long time. However, arguments can be made for both sides. I have trouble sympathizing with either one. I don't think I can be convinced that because the Rooneys are making more than Bell that somehow Bell is being mistreated by being offered 70 mil. As someone who struggles to go from paycheck to paycheck, I just can't be on Bell's side there. My other problem with sports guys being out for themselves is that they do it at the expense of their teammates and of the fans without whom they'd have no job. Cities embrace players and enable them to make the salaries they do maybe even more than the owners do. When they pull stunts like what Bell is doing, I can't see it as anything less than a slap in the face to the fans and to the city.

I completely agree. I was pretty tired of him last year, but this has gotten beyond ludicrous.

Employers don't do it out of the kindness of their hearts. They employ people in order to make money. I guess I'd feel less sympathetic towards the players if they at least had guaranteed contracts. But as it is the teams can cut a player whenever they feel like it. There is no loyalty from teams to players so I am not sure why players are supposed to feel loyalty in reverse.

I employ about 75 construction workers, NOT a single person has guaranteed wages or salary, and every single person is 'employed at will'..... but I still have people that have stayed with my company for over 30 years working for much less than Bell's single game paycheck. I could be financially fine to close the doors and just manage money, but feel an obligation to help support 74 other families and give them an opportunity to retire. Don't go labeling all business owners as greedy. I'd be surprised if you could put the Rooneys into the same group as say Jerry Jones. Both are owners, but very different principles.

Maybe he hasn't shown up yet because the pot isn't out of his system yet? Maybe that's why he won't sign the tag the last two years because if he's not an NFL player he doesn't have to be tested?

EXACTLY. That is the problem as I see it. Spoiled brats trying to take as much out of the system as they can at the expense of fans, owners whomever. Endorsements are major pay days as well for these guys. To think you can actually make a boat load of cash in one year that takes most a lifetime and on top of all that you get to do what you love. Pretty good gig if you ask me.

So the Steelers don't ever cut players with years left on their contracts? I fail to see why they are allowed to get away with that but Bell is supposed to be loyal to the team when he isn't even under contract. Fans expect loyalty from players to the team but don't care when the team doesn't respond with loyalty to the players. Loyalty should be a two way street but fans expect it from only one side. It makes no sense to me other than as a result of fans thinking emotionally and not rationally.

Spoiled brats? They work like hell all year to be in shape and then punish the heck out of their minds and bodies to play the game. And if the players are taking as much as they can get from the system they are also the ones who are putting everything into the system. The NFL can't exist without the players. It is built on their backs.

I can somewhat agree with that. It doenst help the average Joe's get paid more but also its about impact of position as well. A fb doesnt hold the same value as a star player at other positions. Look at QB. You didnt have to prove but so much to get paid at that position. Supply and demand also plays some little role in that. It's harder to come by a franchise QB, a khalil mack, a Donald, ab, obj, leveon, Gurley, etc...

Yeah I work hard all year long as well and dont hold out on my teammates ... I will never agree with you regarding Bell being allowed and just simply excercising his right as set out by the CBA. Get to GD work and show your team your not an arrogant self indulgent wusss

Because there are what millions of soldiers, police officers, fireman, etc.. and they trian those individuals to be successful in their field. Athletes have god given talent that you cant train or teach. You cant teach someone to run a 4.2 or have a 40 inch vertical or teach their height. That's the difference as to why. Do police departments, fire departments, go out and say hey we want you off the street and we will pay this much for you with other departments also bidding for your services? No. They do this in sports. The teams are the ones that have to prove themselves to the players and get the players to choose them in college recruiting, free agency in sports, etc... Its vise versa in the normal job field but these arent people with normal abilities and qualifications.

So it's ok for Pitt to tag bell which is will within the rights of the CBA which forces him to play for a team and not allow him to get offers from other suitors but it's wrong for bell to finesse the system the same way Pitt is. This is what players are talking about right here.

Nope its not.. its ridiculous on both sides but if Bell wants to play football for Pitt he needs to show some class. What he is doing right now demonstrates selfishness. I want him gone so lets move on
