Had Fields stayed here he would've been viewed as a bridge by default as well. $30M is an overpay, but not wildly so (of course, it's not coming out of my pocket). Rooney had to know the paucity of quarterbacks available in this year's free agent pool was going to drive the cost up.

Tomlin has been all talk for at least 10 years.... Despite different players, the Steelers have had the same problems for several years, such as being too conservative on offense and poor defense come playoff time, but they haven't changed anything since then.

If the Steelers had given Fields a real chance instead of handcuffing him and then benching him, maybe the Steelers would have been in a different situation right now.

And also the steelers need a true rebuilding, starting over....I said that during the 2022 season and maybe the steelers would be in a better situation now but they are still stuck in the middle with so many 9-8 or 10-8 seasons

 

I think they're sitting too willy-nilly between retooling and competing. Doing either is difficult, both at the same time?

The offseason thus far has been the epitome of that - bust out of the doors with Metcalf, then sit quietly on the sidelines of free agency, protecting your comp picks for 2026.

 

And this is my problem.They need to go one way or the other....not in between, otherwise they will always be stuck in the middle.

Continually drafting 17-24 will do that. Sometimes you need that top 5 draft pick in order to reset. It’s not a guarantee for success but it also could be the main ingredient to the recipe. They got Ben at 11 but that is only because there were 3 great 1st round QB’s out there.
