I always try to put things in a historical context myself, being a long time fan and unofficial team historian type.

This season is opening up like 1986. Team coming off a underachieving, bad ending season, then lost their #1 Rb (Frank Pollard) and best corner (Dwayne Woodruff) for the season early on. Started 1-6, finished 6-10 and at least were playing hard by the end of the season, helped by Earnest Jackson, a RB discarded by Philly early in the year (which was the thing that came to my mind when the Steelers acquired Felix Jones).

We have a much better Qb than that team did, but that's about it. Best thing that came out of it was a high #1 pick (7th) that saw Rod Woodson fall into their lap, and thus sparked the Cowher era.

I'm seeing same, unfortunately. This team is going to have to get worse before it gets better, I fear.

this is what im thinking. every now and then a high slotted draft spot doesnt hurt. i think this will be that year. i see no reason to believe this team is all of a sudden going to turn it around.

i know its not the Steeler way, but if they have a losing record and arent competitive like they were today. i could see Tomlin being gone.

And you very well may be right but you're not yet, still 15 to go, we'll revisit this then. I've said all along that if preseason is indicative of anything it would mean we get off to a slow start, you can still go on to have a good season after a slow start though. 2-2 would be fine as long as thing come together after that.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up!

But hey, pre-season doesn't mean anything...

Believe me, BF, if we are this bad at season's end I will not be gloating, I will be mourning. I don't want to be right about this but I also try to look at the team objectively and at this point, I don't see a team desiring success.

I think we have better young talent on the team than the one in '86, but otherwise the comparison is - worryingly - a good one.

Well, DeCastro is doing a great John Rienstra impression so far, isn't he? And Jarvis Jones does remind me a lot of Mike Merriweather...:smiley1:
