what did you see this preseason that makes you think they are going to be better? no they dont have to be a super team now, but they did not show anything that would lead me to think they are going to be at any point this season.

you can watch a team and you can tell if they have "it" and this team doesnt right now.

im not sure what they were thinking with some of the cuts they made today, but they let some good young talent go and kept some guys that have shown nothing. i guess we are looking at the same ole same ole.

how about do something a little out of the box and try and mix things up.

Look at the bright side, at least they shouldn't be overconfident going into week #1 of the regular season. :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

I'm sure Ben will only play about 10 snaps every game too, I admit it, we'll suck ass if that happens.

That's the point, he may only play 10 snaps before he's hurt, because that's what we've seen so far.

well I can't find where I read that but i'm usually pretty good at NOT pulling stuff out of thin air to make my point. I was wrong on that one or misread it. now it's bugging me where the heck I read it, because it did surprise me. I do know it was talking about the falcons too in the article.

ok I did find it and may have misread it. yahoo sports powered by the sports exchange. it says the preseason is just that and in 2004 the steelers were 0-4 and followed that by going 15-1 in the regular season. that led me to believe it was after that preseason. sorry for the mix up jack and BF. my bad. even though it was a little misleading. It won't allow me to link it to here for some reason. it's on their front page under NFL. it says mike tomlin not happy.

so for the 10 plays or so he and the starters were playing together you saw enough to think this team is a contender? take the glasses of and move away from the koolaid.

Maybe you just need glasses period? I saw plenty good stuff all around, I'm just not a negative nancy like you and understand what preseason is.

from the starting 11 on offense what good things did you see?

the oline made huge improvements. no, actually they looked every bit as bad as they have been for the last 5 years.

the rb situation is looked down. no, actually they just released they leading back from last year. their second leading back has been hurt all preseason and they savior cant stay on the field.

they have no real weapons at wr. i hope we all learned from last year when most people were putting the whole wr group in the pro bowl during the preseason.

they have no Heath or Spaeth and who knows what Paulson is gonna bring.

Ben is a another year older and still going to have to run for his life and i cant see him making it through 16 games.

but your right. there were lots of positives.

Put yourself in a box, don't put me in one. The other guys count too, Jarvis (who very well may start) looks to be everything he's said to be. Wheaton will make a lot of contributions I bet, Shark looks very good, Bell was impressing the hell out of everyone in camp before getting hurt, no I'm not worried about a guy who never missed a college game being injury prone. Baxter looks very promising to be a future starter, Arnfelt too. Moye will be the big target we have been missing. Heath will be back before too long. Vince Williams looked good, he'll be calling plays for Foote when he leaves. I could go on but you'll just dismiss it as drinking koolaid and rose colored glasses because obviously anyone who disagrees with you must be

You're really judging a handful of plays with the starters in there? Is that what you think preseason is? You never know who anyone really is until about 4 weeks into the season and you want to judge it all in 4 meaningless preseason games? Tell me, has anyone ever won a SB in preseason?

    No problem, mac.

The way some articles are written it's easy to misinterpret them at times.

Mixed emotions on preseason. On one hand I agree with Diamond that the preseason is or should be important. To win everytime you step on the field. And then there is the part of me which believes coaches are playing situation football to find who will make the cut. Kind of like scrimage in any sport I suppose.

I will defer my answer until I see them at home against the titans. Even if they lose which I dont expect they will it's my opinion the Steelers will start out slow and it will take them 4-5 games to get their rhythm.

BF, not giving up on the season yet but give me reason to hope. We are coming off a mediocre .500 season, a sucky and winless preseason, we came out ONCE AGAIN flat and unprepared today and we have key players dropping like flies! I want to try to be optimistic but I'm also a realist. Here's your chance. Why should I feel good about this season again?

Never said you were giving up on the season, Jack. The point was todays loss proves nothing, so bringing up this thread already is childish (you didin't bump it I know). Gloat all you want if this is the way we are at seasons end but now? Silly. Personally, it really seems like you guys are dying to be right, pretty funny.

@lovem, well you know what they say about keeping someone in suspense.

i'm just sad we are not wrong. 5 games into the 2103 season and they have given no reason to think that arent going to struggle all year.

a lot of people around here wanted to write of the preseason as meaningless, but there was so much to learn from.

they had no running game in the preseason. game 1 = no running game
they o-line looked terrible. game 1 = they looked real bad and argueable their best o-lineman is gone for the year.
    the offense couldn't score. game 1 = 7 points
the defense couldn't force turnovers. game 1 - no turnovers.
the defense couldn't get to the qb. game 1 = 1 sack.

not sure if you learned anything from the preseason, but pretty much everything i saw in those preseason games carried over into week 1.

oh yeah. the coaching staff still cant make in game adjustments and refuse to use the young guys.
