Doesn't make you a realist, means you have a different opinion

We seem to always start slow under Tomlin. This is very much a concern to me, but I do not believe the sky is falling. I think Tomlin and his staff (minus DL) don't seem to get goingfor the preseason and the first couple of games. That said we have the talent, if we stay healthy then we will be fine.

I don't want the guys to peak to soon and I don't want to risk injuries in the preseason so I'll hope a full game with Ben at the helm leads to a quick start!

I agree with what was said above here. I really didn't see enough that would think they would improve from last year. We had some individuals step up but nobody gets the "wow" award.

The offense did not look good though the games they played. We did not score many points. If we would of had a few decent drives with the starters I would feel better but I didn't see it.

I didn't see any pressure from our starters. I think we had 2 sacks from our starters. I know Lebeau is saving schemes for the regular season but nothing I seen indicates that we will be better than last year as far as getting turnovers and sacking the quarterback.

Offensive line will be an issue. I know everyone says they need time to gel, they are young and they are learning a new system. Got it. But they will still struggle and it might be to the detriment of our quarterback.

I am hoping that i am wrong also about this team also and I will route for them just as hard as I do every year. But this team needs more preseason games to get there act together.

Preseason is not about wins and loses but how we are playing and are we getting better. This is the real problem. From an 8 and 8 team a year ago we appear to be:

    the same or more penalties!

the same or worse offensive line!

same play calling, except when Ben does his Houdini plays!

    worse special teams!

same running game although when everybody is healthy maybe we could be better!

defense pretty much the same, Troy and Woodley better but lose of Harrison and Lewis offset this.

Sorry and wishing I was wrong but I don't see Tomlin changing or shaking things up to help like inserting Moyer in the lineup, changing out offensive lineman either from within or free agency, same undisciplined and unmotivated overall team.

We will go as far as Ben takes us, and he will be running for his life this season and hope he doesn't get seriously hurt. But that's what I saw this preseason.

I'm going to wait until the final 53-roster is announced before I give my final opinion on what this preseason meant for the Steelers. I want to see how the coaches/staff address what I observed.

It means once the regular season starts the Steelers will unleash hell to quote Mike Tomlin.

A and we are really young on offense. Defense is what it normally is. Offense besides Ben and Heath is young and in learning stages. O-line hasn't gelled, missing Heath, and the RB situation hasn't resolved itself as we all thought it would with the addition of Bell due to his injuries. And it also means that we are young everywhere as far as depth goes. In 2 years we go 4-0 in the preseason and it still wont mean anything.

Let me see if I have this right, the back ups suck so cut the veterans and play the back ups? Why didn't the Steelers come up with that? Rooney hire this guy, future GM of the year material right here.

Not exactly what I was leaning towards....more like this....the Steelers actually have good RB depth this year.....but obviously...none of them are Adrian Peterson, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders...or even our own BUS.......what we do have (LiBerty Bell not included as we don't know what we have) is a group of Redmans........not bad players...not elite...all similar talent levels

All our backup LBs looked pretty good...good speed...good hustle...BUT....I don't see a Patrick Willis or even a Timmons in the bunch......at absolute best I see about four Larry Foote's...and probably only 2.......Let us not forget just one year ago...everyone was raving about the steal Adrian Robinson was...how the Steelers were hiding him on the active roster....and then this year they dropped him like a hot potato.

So as much as we have 4 guys that can play.....I would rather have 1 that can start and be a game changer.

Maybe I am an antique, but when I use to
play the coaches were always harping you play like you practice. We would go over fundamentals, technique over and over, protect the ball, tackling, be disciplined, have heart, play with emotion play smart. Play as a team, win as a team and lose as a team. I don't seem to see where many of these qualities show up in our Steeler team. Again maybe I am too old, and these qualities are no longer important? Maybe those old coaches didn't know what they were talking about? LOL

Means we didn't win any pre season games

Went to the Eighth & I Evening Parade last night. 30 Years in the Marine Corps and I never went. Kicked myself all the way back to the hotel for not going before, BUT I was usually getting ready for other events. Last part was in my defense.

The last three times the Steelers were win-less in the preseason:

    0-5 in 1965 ---- 2-12 regular season.

    0-4 in 1987 ---- 8-7 regular season (strike year)

    0-4 in 2006 ---- 8-8 regular season.

The Falcons went 0-4 this preseason and they're not freaking out. Preseason is for filtering out what works and what doesn't. As Tomlin said in the Q&A after the last game:

Do the mistakes on special teams reflect the ever-changing personnel you are using?

"Hopefully it’s reflective of guys that don’t belong and we will correct that over the next 48 hours."

I noticed the Falcons preseason 0-4 record, and they are in the hunt for NFC title.

It's a sad reality but I do happen to agree with you. It goes to show you that we still manage to compete very well and win in this league. It goes to show you the talent we do have on this team. Somehow we manage to win despite lacking in all the areas you noted.

Exactly. These are the types of stats I wipe my tush with (sorry Jack ;)) because it leaves too many variables out. For instance, what percentage of teams that go on to do poorly after having a winless preseason are consistent .500 or worse teams? I think everyone can agree we aren't the clowns, which I am willing to bet that teams like them make up a large portion of Jacks stats.

A lot of things went into us having a 8-8 season, we will not be 8-8 again, we will win at least 10 games and make the playoffs. Feel free to hold onto this post and rub it in my face if I am wrong, Lord knows I am going to do it to everyone who is predicting we stink out the joint this season :lolol:

I predicted 11-5 over in the prediction thread. I still stand by it. However, Jack is not just a guy on a message board thinking this. During the Panthers game the other night Edmund Nelson flat out said he sees "no way" we win 10 games and he said he thought we would be 8-8. WAIT! I think I know who Jack REALLY is now! AH-HA! You would've gotten away with it if it wasn't for us meddlesome kids!!!

Why do people want to pull stuff out of thin air???

The Steelers were not 0-4 in the preseason in 2004, Ben's rookie year. Where'd you get that, mac?

    http://www.steeleraddicts.com/2013/...-pittsburgh-steelers-after-winless-preseason/

The Pittsburgh Steelers just wrapped up their third winless preseason since 1965, when Mike Nixon was head coach.
Chuck Noll endured a winless preseason in 1987, long after his salad days with the Steel Curtain.
Bill Cowher’s only Super Bowl victory was behind him when the Steelers failed to win a preseason game in 2006.
Mike Tomlin’s Steelers fell 25-10 to the Carolina Panthers Thursday night to finish the preseason 0-4.

Yep, we were 2-2, just looked it up, thought I could trust you Mac! Doesn't change anything in my mind, I bet what I wrote has a lot to do with why those stats show teams do poorly after going 0-4, most are probably perennial losers.

I think we can still trust mac, BF. Lets just chalk it up to a momentary lapse in fact finding. ;)

I hope your optimism is well placed, BF, but I see another .500 season coming on. Hope like heck I'm wrong and you're right.
