We will get better. We left many points on the board and we played terrible. We all expected our Defense to be bad, but we were completely lost. Wide open players, 10 people on the field, blown assignments. The biggest thing was our offense. Terrible playcalling. These things need to be addressed and fixed.

Here is the bright side. Need to beat a forty-whiner team on the downfall and then we get our stud RB back. Hopefully we go 2-2 and by then our defense gets their head out their butts. If we go 3-1 even better. IF by game 4 we haven't won a game, or our defense is giving up 40+, then we can panic.

Plus, our D was totally lost all night long - they left Gronk WIDE OPEN - but we still managed to stay in the game and only lose by one touchdown.

most teams can't stop Gronk, so wasn't expecting our D to stop him. Leaving him wide open is just sad, at least try lol. Besides Pats just own us, great defense or not. Need to hope we don't get them in the playoffs, unless it is at heinz. #headsetdrama

Yeah, I'll take the little Edelman dink passes all game assuming we double-down on Gronk in the red zone. We didn't do that and it killed us.

Like when we lose to Terrell Suggs, I don't think the Cheats beat us; Gronkowski did. If we can find an answer to Gronk any rematch we have with these clowns should have a different outcome. DeAngelo played great but he's no LeVeon, and Lord knows that Bryant would provide a massive upgrade over DHB.

Not many teams stop Gronk. But you do have to limit him if you want to win.

I don't want to beat up DHB too much because he did make a good grab earlier but that endzone play was beyond pathetic. There was absolutely no reason for him to approach catching that ball in that manner. It was like his own fears over not being able to catch caused him to hunker down and try and haul in the ball like that.

I'm actually the MOST mad at Martavis for that play. If not for his selfish behavior he would have probably been the one that ball went to.

So true. Hopefully he chooses the correct path after his suspension.

As for the Gronk thing, why didn't they have a man on him at all times? That's what I don't get. You can play whatever shell you want, but make sure you at least put a body on Gronk. Assign a player to him the entire game. I understand this is a new defense, but I was amazed at how lost they seemed. With as poorly as the defense played, this game could have been a WHOLE lot worse.
On another note, I'm still confused about the fumble that was recovered by Gronk. I thought the holy-roller rule precluded anyone other than the player who fumbled from advancing the ball. Eddelman was stripped at about the 5 yard line or so. Why were the Pats able to recover the ball inside the 1? Granted, I doubt this would have changed the outcome of the game much, and there's a high probability the Pats get at least a field goal there anyway. I'm just curious the ruling on this and why it was able to be advanced by them.

I think I would probably be lying if I said I was hopeful that he would. I mean a guy that has failed MANY tests when he KNOWS THEY ARE COMING is beyond stupid. He is worse. He is arrogant. I don't know that 4 games can fix that.

They probably DID have someone assigned to him but the thing is is that all our guys were so out of position all night and just looked dumbfounded. On that one score where they completely busted coverage the player they DIDN'T have a guy on was Gronk. HOW can you be stupid enough to leave him wide open on the outside? It's just dumb. I hope it's actually not true that you can't fix stupid because if that's actually the case we are in more trouble than we know.

If what we saw last night was a playoff defense I think teams will be having deathmatches to see who gets to play us.

Many athletes have this feeling of it won't be me etc. until they get caught. Hopefully this is his Cris Carter moment and comes back with a renewed focus. As for DHB I will give the guy a pass on last night. He made a great catch and then the gaff in the end zone but when you are starting your 4th string WR you can't expect perfection.

Overall I am not as frustrated as I thought I would be. Some very positive items and of course items that need to be corrected.

If this defense finishes no lower than 19th overall in the league, and we don't have communication issues for a whole half of football (hmmmmmmmmm), then we can be a serious contender with Bell and Bryant back. The home 49ers game will tell us a lot

Our defense didn't appear to be very well coordinated. Not blaming Butler, but our boys looked dazed and confused way too frequently. I expect to see this worked out by the end of the 1st quarter of the season. Probably just growing pains.

As for the fumble rule, I think that may just be for muffed kicks.

Since we're talking Dazed and Confused I would certainly take Wooderson over half our secondary. LOL!

    From Wikipedia:

In response to the Holy Roller, the league passed new rules in the offseason, restricting fumble recoveries by the offense. If a player fumbles after the two-minute warning in a half, or on fourth down at any time during the game, only the fumbling player can recover and advance the ball. If that player's teammate recovers the ball during those situations, it is placed back at the spot of the fumble, unless it was a recovery for a loss, in which case the ball is dead and placed at the point of recovery

Glad most of you are looking positive. The next 3 games will tell a lot...as in how much hope we actually have for the season. So next week is a MUST win. Well every week is lol but you get the picture.

Okay, so the Holy Roller thing is situational. Makes sense. Thanks for looking it up (why didn't I do that exactly?)

If the defense is so difficult to learn that you had to dumb it down and we have had players in the system for 3+ years, maybe its the system and not the players? We are now playing a more traditional secondary without Troy P. roaming the field, maybe that is why we looked so lost.

Either way, we need to get that crap fixed and SOON!!!
