I have been a fan since before Jack Lambert was a rookie. I am not a coach and don t pretend to be.

I think I have only been surprised twice so far this year with an offensive play call.

The first game of the year wasn't on TV in my area so I watched the game at a neighbors who has a package .

He is a 49'rs fan so that really made it fun to watch. I was calling the plays and was amazingly accurate. Harris off tackle for 4 yrds , Harris up the gut for no gain. Then I loved this one I told my neighbor its 3rd and 6 most likely they will dump it off to someone 4 or 5 yds behind the LOS and expect them to turn into Barry Sanders and gain 12 yds yds when we needed 6 . Sure enough that was exactly what they did.

Now near half way through nothing has changed same lame plays, no slants no crossing routes rarely ever see a throw over the middle.

If I had the money I would pay Canada's salary to go away. It can t get any worse we are bottom feeders on offense. Tomlin keeps trying to tune up the defense as if we are going to win 6 to 3 the rest of the way.

I liked Tomlin for years but now he is tough to listen to. Your offense sucks might be the worst in the league . We didn t tackle well enough.
Coach your offense is terrible what are you going to do . We need to have better communication on the defensive side of the ball.
Your team sometimes looks undisciplined and immature whats with that. We need to read the tenor of the officials and react to their tenor and and once we understand their tenor . Have I used the word tenor enough.

We did have a better offense with Duck Dodges, and yes that is scary.

I was thinking about Steelers RB "role players" who stepped up back in the days. Remember Eric Pegram, John L Williams or this is deep Leroy Thompson ? I don`t have any reason why I felt the need to share this info:shrug: Was trying to think of the RB who was always a yard short of first down ? its on the tip of the brain

And for whatever reason, Mike Tomlin finds this acceptable enough to allow Canada to keep his job. Tomlin’s butt needs to be on the line for his failure to make an OC change in the off-season.

I don't know if you've noticed, but the offense often seems to lack hot routes to help the quarterback when blitzed. Pickett has to stand back there and then start to move around or throw it away because all the receivers are running down the field with their backs to the quarterback. Pickett has nobody to throw to. It's a dead play because it is impossible to succeed when receivers don't look for the ball and there is no time to wait for routes to develop.

That leaves two possibilities. One is that Canada's offense doesn't have hot reads and hot routes built into every play. Which means there is incredibly bad play design.

The second is that there are hot routes to counter blitzes, but they aren't being executed by any of the receivers because they aren't reading blitz and no player is being held responsible for missing the assignments.

Pickett is then caught in a dead play with zero chance to work. He has to take the sack or throw the ball away.

In both scenarios, it screams bad coaching.

The other thing is that the offense continues to blow protections when they have the numbers in place to block the rush. Miscommunication, bad design, or both allow free rushers at the quarterback. Pickett keeps getting crushed by a free rusher when the play should be blocked.

I'll say it again. Where is the coaching? Where is the accountability by the coaching staff? They don't even seem to identify it as a problem.

Another problem that is hardly talked about is his center. He cannot snap the ball accurately in shotgun formation. Nearly every snap is low and away. Pickett has to reach for nearly every snap. It slows him down when he reaches for the ball. It slows him down and throws off the timing of plays. It also gives him less time to see the field post snap and can affect his footwork. Add to that the heavy push he gets right in his face when he drops back, and nothing is easy for Pickett in this offense.

When you add all this stuff up, these are big obstacles that Pickett has been trying to overcome and nothing is being corrected.

Nobody seems to be talking about it much at all, and people continue to trash Kenny Pickett. He is taking a lot of blame for a young player in a bad offensive system.

We all know that Pickett is making mistakes too, but the support system is near non-existent.

We shall find out after this season if this squarely falls on Tomlin. Rumors report that AR II made the call to keep Matt Canada but again, not too much traction there. Only other rumor regarding AR II is this one. Only problem is we are currently too far into the season for this to happen; doubly so my suggestion dating back to the Off Season; keep MC as an OC in name only while Sullivan and Thomas handle the game planning on Offense.

This Off Season we shall find out if AR II will not only get rid of Canada for good but also hire outside the Organization. For that matter, have both Kahn and Weidl work.
